I get a call at work asking for one of my employees. I say she is not here today and Jay responds that she called them at 10am. Thinking maybe she went home sick I say perhaps she left at lunch time. Jay starts interrogating me about who I am and why I don't know whether or not my employees are here. He basically implies that I am lying to him calling my responses "excuses". When I ask Jay who he works for and what they do he only gives me the name of the company and no information about why he is calling.
To make a long story short I eventually dropped an "F Bomb" on Jay because he was being so harassing. When asked how my boss would respond to me talking on the phone like that I told him if he knew who I was talking to he would think I let you off light. Jay then makes some remark that almost makes it sound like the company is a ruse set-up to keep him from harassing my employees. At least the other collections companies will respect it when you tell them that employees are not to be contacted at work.
What a jerk and what a jerky company.

They are permitted to state their name, and upon request, the name of the company from which they are calling from. And you are right, he should not be harassing a third party for information. J.
