Moda furniture store in Paramus

August 29, 2005

On June 11th we bought furniture from Paramus Moda. A week after we were scheduled to pick up our bedroom set and the mattress, we could not get the truck. Therefore, we rescheduled to the week of June 28th. Couple of days before the pick up, Sergey, sales associate from Moda called us and reassured that everything was set up for our pick up on June 28th. When it came time to pick up the furniture, on June 28th, we rented Uhaul truck. Upon arrival to the warehouse, it turned out that headboard with posters were missing. It turned out that warehouse had exactly the same bedroom set on the floor as a clearance item. Jacky, warehouse representative told us that they can take missing items from the clearance floor model but they would not have packaging for it.

We did not pay $3,500 so that we get a floor model, which was scratched by the way. Therefore, we decided to cancel furniture but picked up the mattress. We have an original cancellation receipt signed by Jacky and by one of the workers in the warehouse. The receipt said that the order was canceled because warehouse did not have parts. We were promised full refund within 10 days. The mattress that we picked up was put in the truck by one of the workers and we took it with us to Florida. After sleeping on the mattress for 2 days we started suspecting that warehouse gave us the wrong mattress. Our suspicion was confirmed when warehouse representative compared original receipt to the label on the mattress. Jacky, promised us to take care of the problem and let us know within 1 week. Two weeks later she called and said that Moda will ship the whole bedroom set to Florida without charging us delivery charge. Jacky said that we would have our furniture within a week.

She also said that the right mattress will be coming on the same truck with furniture and we can return the wrong mattress. After not hearing from Jacky or anybody else for more than 2 weeks, we started calling Sergey (our sales person at the Paramus store). Sergey never called us back. We called and left numerous messages for Jacky and to the person responsible for returns and exchanges. In those messages we demanded full refund just like we were originally promised. We also specified that we neither want the merchandise nor anything to do with Moda for the lack of customer service and complete unprofessionallism. On the second week of August (which is almost 2 months after original pick up date), someone from Delivery Company called us and said that our furniture will be delivered today. We called warehouse and finally got in touch with Jacky.

She acknowledged the fact that Moda shipped furniture disregarding all our messages. The right mattress was not on the truck and Jacky still did not know how we are going to resolve this issue. At that point we called manager at the warehouse. He was extremely rude and not helpful at all. After that, we called manager of the Paramus store. He got very defensive and said that he did not know anything about this situation. He also said that we couldn’t cancel the order and get our money back. As for the mattress, he said, “It’s out problem now”. Later that day, we called regional manager for Moda store. He was also very rude and mentioned that he was only on the job for 2 months. Regional manager also said that he did not care about original cancellation receipt and he said that it’s completely our fault that we took the mattress at the warehouse. However, he promised to look into our situation and call us back the next day (August 25). Today is August 30th and we still have not heard from anyone.
