Wells Fargo Bank

Wells Fargo Bank

August 15, 2005

I deposited a money order for $399.55 into my account on July 11, 2005. When I checked my account online the next day, I noticed that it had not posted to my account. There was no record of it at all (not even in a pending status). I called Wells Fargo customer service, and was told that they would start an investigation. Two days later, after hearing nothing, I went back into the branch where I had made the deposit. The manager of the branch "fixed the problem" and credited my account.(July 15, '05).

The following month, August 10, I was checking my account online, and saw that a debit had been made for $399.55 with a description of Bank Adjustment. It turns out that they bank had either lost or destroyed my money order. After several attempts to contact customer service, the bank's accounting department, and the branch where the transaction took place, I kept getting the same response: They are telling me that it is MY responsibility to get a replacement money order! There is no way for me to do this, because I was not the purchaser of the money order! Wells Fargo rep told me that it is my responsibility to make photocopies of EVERY check that I deposit into my account, just in case something happens to them!

I have the transaction slip from the Wells Fargo, showing that I deposited it with them. I believe it is Wells Fargo's responsibility to get the replacement. I believe it is THEIR responsibility to make copies of every check they receive. They are the bank.

I have reported them with the BBB, and am waiting for their response.
