Credit Report Information

August 15, 2005

I am a working mother of two residing in Nevada, not a business.

My complaint is that I am currently reviewing my credit report in an effort to clean it up and buy a new house. While doing this Trans-Union has provided me with a current report and on this report there is an unpaid medical bill that lies with a collection agency; Aargon. As soon as I received my report and saw this information I immediately contacted this agency to clarify and pay for this bill. Before doing so I wanted to check the validity of it and inquire about having this derogatory mark removed from my report once paid in full. The only reason for such a request is because I never received any information regarding this bill in the past. It originated in 2003 under my maiden name and at my previous address. I am not sure why it was billed in my maiden name as I got married in February of 2002. I spoke to the manager at the collection agency and she said that she had received returned mail from that address and then got my new address but mail was returned to her from there as well because of the name discrepancy. HOW IS THIS MY FAULT?? I asked her why she couldn't see that my name had changed knowing that she has the means to look at my credit report? She was extremely rude and said that it wasn't her job to chase people to see if they got married. I thought it was their job. I was very calm and nice in this conversation and she was very rude and defensive. She said that there is no way that she can have the negative information deleted from my report and that it wasn't her fault. She told me that I have to take it up with the credit bureau once the bill is paid. I didn't want to pay the bill until I knew what my options were as far as having this removed completely from my report as I never even knew that the bill existed until today. I could no longer take her yelling at me so I hung up the phone to avoid losing my temper back at her. What are my options? Please help.
