Alamo Rentals

August 14, 2005

My wife and I recently vacationed in FL for a week. We had rented a car from Alamo to drive to Jacksonville in order to catch a flight to return to CA. Enroute to JAX, I had taken a picture of her at a rest stop and put the digital camera on the rear driver floorboard. We were running it close since we had to drive from Panama City. Upon arrival at Jacksonville Alamo, we hurriedly got out of the car to catch our flight. The person that checked in the car had asked if we had gotten everything to which I stated yes, not thinking about the camera. When we arrived back to CA that same night, my wife asked me about the camera which I remembered was still in the car. I called Alamo the next day and explained what had happened and they said all that was found was a pair of sunglasses! Neither I nor my wife had any sunglasses on that day! I find it hard to believe that nothing was found in the vehicle especially if it was still at the Jacksonville Alamo location the next day. I called the Jacksonville location and even e-mailed Alamo and they still contend that they did not find any digital camera. I had spoken with lost and found and they said that staff have found small amounts of money and Polaroid cameras and have turned them in. My camera was not a Polaroid and cost considerably more than that. I understand that rental companies are not responsible for items left in cars, but it does not give the right for Alamo personnel to take them either! I bet if I had taken the extra 30 seconds to check the vehicle, I would not be writing this complaint. The camera can be replaced, but the over hundred pictures of family are......PRICELESS!!
