Switching of VIN numbers on a trialer we pruchased Switching of VIN numbers on a trialer we pruchased August 13, 2005 In 2003 we purchased a 2004 Cottage Country Resort 39ft park model trailer from Camping in Style in Brooklin, Ontario. Recently we were selling the trailer and went to the driver vehicle office to switch the ownership and found out we did not own the trailer. We were told that the VIN number on our documents belong to someone else. Called the dealership and they said check the VIN on your trailer. The VIN on the trailer we have is different to the one on our paperwork. The dealership said thats not a problem we will register the trailer you have in your name and issue you a new bill of sale with the new VIN number. We lost the sale on our trailer as the buyers felt that we were trying to sell them a trailer we did not own. I called the bank because for two years we were paying the bank for the trailer with the VIN number listed on all our documents. The bank advised that they received new documents with the new VIN number with our initials next to the new VIN number. I asked the bank to send a copy of the documents for us and as I suspected the initials on the document was not our handwriting. I called the bank to ask when they received that document and they don't know. The dealership attitide is that it's only paperwork and they will send us new paperwork. Not only did they switch vehicles without us knowing, they did not register one vehicle in our names. I am still waiting on paperwork on the trailer I have.
