Verizon cell phone

I switched over to Verizon a year ago from Sprint to get better service. I've had my phone for a year, and the signal constantly fluctuates between 5 bars and no service. I called customer service several times because my sister has the same phone and would have service and I would have none. They told me to do *228, which I did several times. Last night, my phone shut off and had some weird message like mcsy.c and some numbers. I brought my phone into a verizon store, and they said my warranty expired last month and it was $60. I had to pay $60 to get a phone that works, when if customer service had told me last month to change my phone it would have been free. I would like a $60 refund on my account. I have never been late on a

payment and am a good customer. I don't think I should be punished for a phone that is malfunctioning. thanks,
