Chase Manhattan Bank P.O Box 15129 Wilmington, DE 19850-5129 I'd like to register a complaint against Chase Manhattan Bank card services and their lack of customer service and shady practices. I paid nearly the entire balance on my Chase card on 04/26/2005 less about $16.00 (finance charges that hit after I submitted the autopay). I checked my bank the next day and the autopayment had posted. I then checked my Chase account and I had $0.00 available credit! I called their supposed "customer care" who wanted to know what "excellent service" they could provide for me today. None, it turns out. I was told by the woman who answered the phone (I couldn't understand her name, she had a thick accent) that because my payment was so large and beyond my normal payment they were putting a hold on my account for eight days. She told me the funds may be rejected by my bank up to seven days after posting so they were putting a hold on my account until that time. What a poor practice. The funds had automatically been taken from my account and are currently being held hostage by Chase. The money is gone from my account so I certainly can't use that and the available credit is nil so I can't touch that, either. I asked three times why I didn't have access to my account and kept getting the same response that the funds could bounce and that my available credit would be available in eight days. They gladly took my payment when I was making my regular payment without a hold, but then by paying it off they weren't going to make any money on finance charges, so I'm punished. I hung up in frustration. Is this how they treat all of their customers who pay their balance off every month? Once my second payment to cover the finance charges has cleared, IF they allow that, I will shred the card and every card they send me after.
