AOL free trial
I purchased a new laptop in March '04. With it came the free trials of everything in the world, including AOL. I do not use AOL, and have not used AOL since '97 (or earlier). I have since used ATT worldnet or Lifeway Online. However, with neither of those disks in my possession anymore, i have to go online to downlod the software. So, i set up the so-called "free trial" account to download my ATT software. Then, a day or two later I called and cancelled the AOL service.
Much to my surprise, four months later I am looking at my checking account online and notice an AOL charge once a month. No bill, no notice from AOL. I immediately call my bank and stop payments. Then, I try to get in touch with AOL. It took me 4 phone calls and 3 days to finally get someone.
She would not listen to my side of the story (you know, the customer is ALWAYS RIGHT!), tried to offer me another "free trial" and I said "no thanks." After my abrupt "no thanks" she blurts out "well, I was going to tell you how you could get your money back, but you said 'no thanks.'" If she was really interested in getting me my money back, she would have told me so anyway, with or without a "free trial." Hopefully, my (non-existant) AOL service has now been cancelled, but if I look at my bank statement next month and see it there again, legal action will be taken.
