Reader's Digest/Circulation Dept. Sir/Madam,
I thought you may be interested in how Reader's Digest is conducting it's renewal campaign. Attached you will find a notice I received in my mailbox. I could not believe the tactics used by what, I thought, was a very reputable company.
(notice the highlighted portion of the letter AND the "alert" on the envelope) I was most offended by the underhanded method used to make me look like a deliquent subscriber. Also, notice the use of primarily, "capital" letters and, red lettering?
You'll notice the tear in the middle of the "FINAL NOTICE" stub? I was going to send it, at first, then I thought, "why?" I tore it and tossed it. Then I thought better of it. I decided to tell someone about what, I consider, "strong arm" tactics! I never thought I'd see such a thing from a company such as Reader's Digest!
I wrote to them and told them I would no longer be subscribing and, I would not, knowingly, buy any of their magazines again. I also told them that I would show everyone I know the methods they use to "encourage" renewal of subscriptions.
I don't normally complain about trivialities but THIS was too much, for even me. Oh, I also told them that I had considered, seriously, buying a book they had offered , on a flyer I received in the mail. I even had the card filled out ready to mail. Needless to say, I told them I would NOT be buying it.
I just thought you might find it interesting. Thank you ever so much, for your time.
