Days Inn Motel
We made reservations at the Days Inn in Dallas. The address is 4500 Harry Hines Blvd. We had reservations for July 24 through July 26 and had booked two rooms. When we arrived at the property we immediately noticed it did not look anything like it did on your web site. The really shiny lobby was non-existent. Instead it was a dirty lobby with a big screen TV playing RAP music where ever other word started with the F word, we were very embarrassed. We immediately got a cold chill up our back; then things got worse. We were greeted by an individual who did not speak English. We then tried to back out of the reservations. This was Noon on July 24th. According to our contract with Days Inn (the web reservation email) we had until 4:00 PM to cancel. I told him I did not want to stay there (we knew the Super 8 in Irving had rooms at .00 per night, this property was per night). They said we did not have to stay there but they would be taking both rooms for both nights out of our credit card. (We would be charged for the rooms anyway) We were not obligated to stay though (he laughed). I showed him our web reservations and he said (in strange broken English) that they do not go by Days Inn rules and can do whatever they want. They do not honor a 4 PM cancellation.
He showed me where they had already charged our credit card for the full amount (remember, this is noon) and showed me a pink sign on the counter where it stated that all rooms guaranteed by a credit card CANNOT be cancelled and that the full amount will be taken off your card! He said in short, once you make the reservations, you paid for the rooms and they WILL NOT take the charges back off our credit card. I was very upset and said I might as well stay. He asked for a credit card and a photo ID. I asked him why when the rooms were already taken off the credit card. He said in case they want to take more off for something else. NOW I was getting very angry. So we gave him our credit card and photo ID. He went over to a machine and took a copy of them in a copier and folded it up and put it on the counter. I told him I did not want him to take a copy of the card and ID. He said we cannot stay unless he can do that. He said we would be given it back when we leave. I presented him with my Trip Rewards card and he said they have never heard of Trip Rewards! He finally did swipe my rewards card though. The room they assigned us did not have a working Air Conditioner (this is Dallas in late July). It was unbearable so we went and requested another room. They gave us another room that was half way decent (the AC anyway). About 15 minutes I was going through the lobby with some luggage and saw an elderly couple, one in a walker, getting a room. And to my disgust, it was the room with the non-functioning AC! How sick are these people? Our other party showed up and we were forced to take the other room also. There was PUKE on the window and running down into the carpet. It has a huge hole in the bathroom where cockroaches were coming out of the wall. The sink was broke and full of hair. I was sick and angry again. I went to them and asked for another room. They said they were booked up and laughed. We took the room. Want pictures? We went swimming and the pool was DISCUSTING! I am sure there was some sort of diseases floating around in that green water. We went to see the city the next day and asked if our rooms would be cleaned because we were staying for another night. The lady we talked to said "me no clean". We did not know if that meant she was not a cleaning lady or they would not clean our rooms. We could not find an English speaking person but I thought they got the drift. NOPE, the rooms were not made up, no towels, no fresh sheets, nothing. Guess she meant they would not clean the rooms! We asked why they were not made up. They laughed. We asked for towels and they said they did not have any. We asked for washcloths and we got towels. We tried for a long time to explain to the gentlemen at the front desk what a washcloth was and he kept giving us towels and arguing with us in some sort of strange Spanish-Chinese language. We never did get our washcloths. Then came check out. And guess what. THEY WOULD NOT GIVE US BACK OUR PHOTO ID AND OUR CREDIT CARD COPY! We spoke to the manager, he was from India. He shook my hand and told me to have a nice day.
