Matag Neptune washing machine

Maytag Corporation's front loading Neptune washing machine.

I purchased the Neptune washer back in October of 2000. At the time of my purchase, Maytag knew this was a defective appliance. My Neptune was trouble free during the time it was covered under warranty. Shortly after the warranty expired, the door latch and the main control panel had to be replaced. Maytag would not cover these repairs. I have now spent around $1300 for the privilege of having a Neptune washer in my house.

Maytag should be ashamed of themselves for selling an appliance they knew to be defective. They should also be ashamed for the lack of respect they've shown to their customers who complained about the problems. They should be ashamed of not reimbursing every dollar that every customer has had to pay out of their own pockets to have these known problems repaired. They should be ashamed for selling a defective appliance under a brand name that claims to need so few repairs that the Maytag repairman is the loneliest guy in town.

Most of all, Maytag should be ASHAMED for allowing this situation to become a class action suit. Shame on you, Maytag, for letting it go this far. Shame on you for being more concerned about your profits than your reputation for manufacturing quality appliances.

Shame on you, Maytag for thinking the good will of the public isn't important. Your CEO must have forgotten that incorporation is a privilege granted by the citizens of this country. Shame on you for the shoddy treatment shown to the citizens who bought this washer in good faith, and are now forced to be a part of a class action suit in order to get any kind of resolution from you.

I have related my Maytag experiences to four friends and family members who were interested in purchasing a Neptune. They have chosen not to purchase the Neptune. Maytag may have cost me $400 in repairs, but I cost them about $4000 in sales. So, Maytag, do you think it was worth it?
