Cingular Wireless Cingular Wireless Changes their story when they are wrong and protects incompetent customer service associates who provide wrong information: A couple of months ago I called Cingular to upgrade my local plan to a national plan because I was going to be traveling for 10 days and needed my. The rep told me that I absolutely could not Upgrade to a national plan until the 19th of the Month (Which was 17 days away) and Warned me that I was going to have to pay my roaming charges if I used my phone. What was I supposed to do? Just suck it up and pay the bill. I needed my phone, so I used anyway but promise myself to shop around for a new Wireless company on my return....
So I came back from my trip, switched to Verizon and fired Cingular.. When cancelling Cingular, the rep on the phone asked me why I switched, I told him it was because they don't have flexibility to allow clients to upgrade their plans at any time during the month. She mentioned that wasn't true that I could upgrade my plan anytime. I explained to the rep that I had called back on May before my trip to upgrade my plan and was declined.
She looked in my account and saw the entry that was done in May, but also stated that the call was entered as a Request for Coverage Area Information only for which the Rep had provided the information and also informed me of the Roaming Charges. I tried to explain the correct purpose of my call back in May was to upgrade to a National Plan, she assured me there was no record of that request entered by the rep on that day.
So here I already upset because the Rep that I spoke with back on May not only gave me wrong information but went even further to enter his 'own' notes in their system to change the Story. I decided to dispute the charges in light of the facts that I have discovered and the incompetency of their staff and asked for a supervisor.. The supervisor told me there were going to review the situation and that a Manager will call me back.. They claimed they called me back the following week, but I never received any calls just the bill asking payment for the $ 550 in roaming charges.. When I called then back I spoke with at least 3 people in different positions. One of them said that I was eligible to switch back in May and that she didn't understand why the rep didn't switch me back then, but she couldn't do anything about the charges. Her supervisor said that the charges were legitimate because the Rep had entered on their system that he went over the roaming charges with me..
I tried to explain the reason of my call back in May was to upgrade to a higher plan to avoid the roaming charges but I was denied. She didn't want to change the amount billed and insisted on me paying the full amount. And asked me to write a complain to yet another 'useless' department on their company.
In the meantime I got a letter from a collection agency billing me $650 (100 over the original bill) When I called back Cingular to Pay for the $550 to get the collection agency off my back they refused to accept my payment.. and said they don't have anything to do with the bill anymore and that I should only have to deal with the collection agency and the new bill for $650.. This is sick. Thanks, Italo M New York.
