I purchased a Maytag dishwasher, model # MDB7600AWW, and hired a plumber to install it. The installation was complete, other than the base board cover panels, and he started a wash cycle to test it. I had an immediate flood in my kitchen.

 

The elbow connection at the pump was not seated properly. The seal was broken and the tab inside the fitting was defective.

 

I called the Maytag Home Appliance Center and the plumber described the problem to the manager who wanted to set up a service call. I told him I had payed $500 for a new dishwasher and I didn't want a "new" product that had to be repaired before I could even use it.....I wanted a replacement. He said that Maytag policy dictates that once the consumer takes possession of an appliance, the only option is repair as stated by the warranty.

 

I then called the national customer service number and was eventually connected with a representative named Crystal who said she was a manager. She repeated what the manager had told me and, when I protested, she stated that "it's not a perfect world" and that was their policy.....no exceptions, period.

 

I have now been late to work once to meet the repairman. He didn't have the necessary parts and I will have to be late again so that he can finish the repair.

 

Maytag has advertised for years that their products are exceptionally dependable (Maytag repairman, the loneliest guy on earth??) and that they stand behind them. In my opinion, refusing to satisfy a customer who has a product that was defective right out of the box, illustrates otherwise.

 

Please, do yourself a favor and avoid purchasing products from Maytag. Thank you for the opportunity to enlighten future appliance purchasers.
