Tim Horton's Bad Customer Service

Mavis Road - Mississagua, Ontario This is a complaint letter I sent to Tim Hortons and received an Auto Reply Form letter for my efforts. A quick and slightly angry phone complaint got me a $20 voucher for Tim's. I do not complain often, but if I do there is a reason: Hello, This week I was presented with a situation that I would like to tell you about. It happened on Tuesday August 10th, 2004 at the Tim Hortons on Mavis Road. I usually visit this store once or twice a day since the drive thru team in the morning is fantastic and quick. On Tues, I decided to go inside since the line was incredibly long and like everyone else, I was in a hurry. I went in the store and ordered my usual XL tea and was surprised that it came up $1.50. I understand about price changes, that is not my complaint. When I asked the lady (didn't get a name, but I believe she was a manager type since she was wearing a dark shirt), about the price change, she snapped that the cost went up yesterday. Again, I would assume that lots of people are upset about such a price hike and probably took it out on this lady, so that is not my complaint. What upset me is that I asked what was the reason the price went up, she stated that it was because the tea was brewed (she meant steeped). The tea that she gave me was in fact not steeped, but in a bag. I questioned that and she said they haven't done the steeping tea yet. So...why was I charged?

Not only that, but when I pointed out that the price beside the tea on the order board was only 95 (98?) cents, not $1.50 as I was charged, she stated that it had not been changed yet, then looked past me and said "Next". There was only one person behind me, and 2 cashiers, so I wasn't holding any line up which clearly meant that I was dismissed. Now, I wasn't rude or super mad, but it bothered me. It bothered me for days which is why I am writing to you now. If the price of tea was going to change, why didn't someone say to me a week, or a few days before the change so I knew. A heads up so I could bring more then my usual $1.05. I would

have been embarrased if I waited in line and then couldn't have paid for it due to lack of change. When I ordered tea, why did I get charged more when it wasn't steeped? Why were the prices not changed at that store, or more importantly, why did they not honor that price when I pointed it out? It seems like in this world today, a customer complaint only gets resolved when they scream and curse and make a scene. When you try to politely point out something you are not satisfied with, you are dismissed. The nice guys finish last once again. I will probably go back to Tim's. I would really like to try the new tea. But right now, I don't know when I will go. I know one person doesn't mean very much loss in retail, but I have told many people about my service that day. I would like to tell them how it was resolved as well. Thank you for your time.

Tim Hortons Store on Victoria Street in Goderich Ontario Can. I went up to the drive thru bought two coffees. When I got to the window the young lad said "We are out of pennies so you are three cents short on your change" I drove away thinking 3 pennies not much to me but IF Tim Hortons stores did that for a day all over it would mean millions. Besides the boy was rudeand made NO hesitation for another solution??? Disappointed Ron Glousher
