website Incident

Staples mailed catalogs to existing customers. The catalog was offering 50% discounts on selected items. Instructions on the catalog claim state clearly "1) Put items in your cart, 2) Ensure your items total $150 or more, 3) Click "enter coupons" and type in the coupon code printed below" When doing so, none of the discounted prices are charged, the full prices are charged.

After speaking with customer service, I was instructed to place the order by clicking on a very small link "Order by catalog", once I did so the correct prices appeared on my shopping cart. Damage Resulting

I believe Staples is purposefully using a different procedure and website link to cause most clientele to place orders the "normal way" by putting items in their cart. Most clients may assume they will receive the discount price by virtue of entering the staples item number, this is not the case, entering the item number xxxxxx-T4 finds the non-discounted xxxxxx item with no warnings.

Even after the coupon is entered, the items are not discounted. Shoppers may not realize the discounts are not being applied and therefore paying full price. When phone ordering, forgetting to mention the promotion code will again result in full prices being charged.
