Compaq Presario 5000
I brought a Compaq Presario 5000 brand new in the box in Feb. 2001 from CompUSA.
In Aug of 2001 I started having problems with my monitor and I called Compaq and they walked me through some troubleshooting things and still the monitor was having problems. They said they would send me out another one and they did.
In the summer of 2002 I was having problems with my modem. I called Compaq to see if they could help me. When the phone was answered I told them my situation and they check my information in the system and said that my warranty had expired and that they could not connect me to anyone until I purchased an extended warranty, which I refused to do. I spoke with this representative's supervisor and was told the same thing. I asked to speak to his supervisor who confirmed what was said.
Then when I told him the problem I was having with my modem he mentioned to me that "Acts of God" were not covered and said that an electrical storm could be the reason that my modem was not functioning. I told him that we did have an electrical storm in our area and he said that if that is the cause of the malfunctioning modem it would not be covered under the extended warranty that they kept insisting that I purchase. I told him how dumb I thought it was to insist that I purchase an extended warranty to get assistance on something that may not even be covered and then I disconnected the call.
In th spring of 2003, my 2nd monitor died. I am currently on my third.
Now on top of all of this 2 weeks ago. My operating system (Windows ME), which was loaded into the computer when I purchased it has gone. Because of the issues that I had with Compaq in reference to the modem, I didn't even bother to call them. A nice gentleman at my job is looking at it as we speak and these are some of the things he said:
Your floppy drive is shot. (That's the loud "rattling" noise going on when you turn the system on.) I'm shocked that there isn't a single case fan in the system (just a fan on the CPU). Systems should have at least one case fan to vent heat from the system (you go, Compaq!). Just wanted to let everyone know. I am completely dissatified. I will purchase another Compaq product.
