Direct Tv, Refund I canceled my direct TV subscription when I moved.
I had already paid for my one year subscription so I owed them no money
In Fact they owed me $44.50
1. At the end of June 2004 I called to cancel my subscription to direct TV, Had no problems was informed that they owed me money and that I would receive a check for $44.50 within 30 days , needless to say I was happy
2. At the end of July I call wondering where my check was , I was informed that it had no been processed and that they would do that right now and I would receive a check within thirty days
3. I forget about it and do not call until mid September , When I call they gentleman I spoke to was most apologetic and said that he would rush the refund and I would receive it within 10 working days so happy I just waited for the check.
4. I never received a check but I did receive a refund on my credit card on September 28th for the amount of $44.50 twice totaling $99.00 there mistake I figured they would send a bill .
5. On September 29th I received a bill from Direct TV for $44.50 , had no problem with this as technically I did owe them this money ,The bill was due on 10/17/04 but was also marked past due. So I call direct TV and ask them why the bill is past due although it has not pasted it's due date , Apparently it is company policy that when you close an account that the bill say's past due, So I ask if I should take three months to pay this bill as it took them three months to refund my money , The response being that it is my choice on when to pay the bill , that was the end of that conversation.I set the bill aside with the rest of my bills to be paid when I get around to bill day (I pay all my bills on the same day)
6. October 6th , 11 days before the bills due date , I receive a call from a collection agency about my past due direct TV account which is still not due for payment for another 11 days, I am shocked and ask the women if she I joking , apparently she is not , so I calmly explain what had happened and she transfers my to direct TV, apparently direct TV have an in-house collection agency which seems to be so that they can call there former customers or current on who owe them money to sound a little more threatening , you know how one bad thing on your credit report can cost you thousands in interest charges when buying anything, Anyway I speak to a customer service women who really has no idea what so ever about anything so as I am slowly losing my temper and trying to explain exactly that it was them that had made the mistake and that I should no be in collection as the bill was not due and that there should really be no bill as they should never have refunded me the money twice. she did agree with me that it was there fault but could only guarantee that it would not appear on my credit if I paid the bill.so I paid the bill and asked to speak to somebody in charge.
7. I am transferred to a supervisor who I tell the whole story to , after which she insists that it is all my fault because I never called my credit card company to tell them that I should only have one refund on my account , between the time I received the refund and the time I receive the bill, I get home from work at approx. 9:30 pm I have a two credits on my card, figure that's there mistake I ignore it after all I want to relax I had just worked 12 hours, I leave at approx 8:30am the next day for work.I pick up my mail at approx, 10pm on getting hone from work , and find the direct TV bill , apparently I was suppose to call my credit card company between in the 11 hours of getting home from work and leaving from work, 8 of those hours are spent sleeping which leaves me three hours , 1 of those hours are spent in the morning making breakfast for my two year old and getting ready for work , so that leaves me two hours to relax , and I may be wrong but I can think of better things to do than spend my time trying to fix direct TV problem as I really only have limited recourses as compare to direct TV.
Moral to the story , if you have direct TV do not cancel it unless you owe them money , if you don't have direct TV never ever become one of there customers, they cost more and have less channels . I know I sound bitter but the truth is if it hadn't been for the one year agreement I would have switched back to cable after on month.
