Jackie M., Your outrageous allegations are unbelievable? Why don't you check your facts first before discredited someone's name such as Mike Staaf? First you need to ask your ex-boyfriend his role in this situation. He had spoken to plenty of people in this office about his and your situation and was directed to exactly what he and yourself had to do. He did not follow through and obviously did not give you the information needed to get you out of this lease without further litigation. Maybe next time you should take care of things of this magnitude yourself instead of relaying on someone, who is obviously to irresponsible to understand simple instructions and pass them on. Also I would like to re-iterate that your lawyer did contact us and we responded within 1 business day. I personally spoke with Shelly at his office. (Feel free to follow with his office check that fact!) I explained that the amount that you wanted to settle was not sufficient to the damage done to the apartment, (which by the way you fail to mention in your complaint) the rent owed to our company, and now the legal fees that had accumulated. And yet another point you regret to mention is that we could have levied all of your furniture, personal belongings, etc. until your debt was met. This would have been an embarrassing process to you and your family. However, we let pay your debt off in monthly installments that you are still making over a year later. Any other landlord I have ever came into contact with would not have been as generous. They would went ahead with the sale or demand the lump sum upfront. I could go on for days about how disgusted we all are here at SRS, about your outlandish accusations. But we have better things to do than worry about every tenant(s) who leaves their apartment trashed with bounced checks and in the middle of their lease. So in conclusion Miss Minitier, I suggest that reassess your facts and reconsider your public statements about any business and/or person before discrediting them. Thanks, Kelly Feel free to respond as you feel necessary next time you come in to make a payment towards your balance :)

SRS Management (rental agency)

This complaint is against SRS Management (A rental agency), and the owner, Mike Staaf. They are located in Beaver, Pennsylvania, 15009. I rented an apartment from SRS from Jan 04 until May 04. My Boyfriend stayed in the apartment until approx. Jun 4. We tried to contact Mike to take care of early Lease termination, and a bounced check, and moving process.

I was only able to speak with a secretary, despite calling the office 2-3 times a week each week. The secretary advised me not to turn my key in to the remaining tenant (my boyfriend) until I spoke with Mike. However, he never called, and we were never put through to speak with him. The first week of July, we were summoned to court by SRS for unpaid rent, charges, and damages. We went to court and after the judgement which they asked for roughly $1650 (approx. $200 less than the unfair amount asked by SRS), I went to Lawyer Gerald Benyo seeking assistance to appeal the case. Mr. Benyo sent SRS a letter asking for settlement of $950, which we feel is a fair amount.

Despite frequent contact attempts from my lawyer, they received no reply from Mike or any staff from SRS Management. SRS went to our local Magistrate, who after numerous failed attempts to speak with Mr. Staaf, dropped his case also. Mike Staaf made no attempt to contact myself, my boyfriend, our lawyer, or the Magistrate for any attempt of settlement. On September 4, 2004, SRS sent a Constable to my house and my boyfriends house seeking payment of approx. $1895 or our properties. We have been in contact with the Constable and the Magistrate on the subject, and they understand our situation. After the magistrate dropped SRS’s case, Mr. Staaf’s office supposedly contacted the Sheriff’s office who, we were told, would be sent to our house to collect our properties unless payment of over $2000 is made. We tried to make arrangements to close the lease the day after we moved out of their property. We never once were able to speak with Mike Staaf, but he is attempting to collect a ridiculous amount of money from us (including 3 months past due rent, past due fees, an eviction fee, and other misc. fees. Now this total also includes constable fees, magistrate fees, and sheriff fees), all because of his own poor business practices. I feel this is very unfair, but I am being forced to pay money I shouldn’t have to because I don’t know what else to do. I would like to make known to everyone who is interested in renting in the Beaver County area that SRS Management is not a company to use. They have unethical business practice, are impossible to work with, and will rip you off for every penny they can. This is a position no one should ever be placed in, and I would hate for anyone else to have to experience it. Please let me know what you suggest, or where this complaint will be posted. I appreciate all your help in making sure consumers are aware of poor “businesses”, and helping others to learn from our mistakes. Thanks! Jacque M Jacque M

This is obviously old but I do believe the tennant in this case. I've rented from them and Mike Staaf is incredibly hard to get a hold of. If you get him on the phone, he'll say he'll call you back but doesn't. If you get his secretary, she'll assure you you will get a return call but you don't. He needs to remember that he's in a low-rent area he's not a big executive in the city.

I was also a loyal-always-paid-rent-on-time tennant and one time I asked the secretary (because Mike would not come to the phone) if I could pay the rent one day late without having to suffer a $40 fine - they told me "No." (despite living there for 2 + years and always paying on time)

The best part is that sometimes after hours he leaves his huge german shepards in the office and when you go and pay rent they try to knock the front door off the hinges to attack you. (It's definitely not playful looking at all)

SRS Management is ok, I would see if you could negotiate on the rent a little bit because their prices are too high for the are they're in. Also, see you can put down a pet deposit instead of paying a monthly fee. I've paid them over $400 in monthly fees for my cat which is not worth it since the cat has done no damage.

SRS definitely needs to learn the value of customer service. Answer the phone and make sure you call people back when you say you do because it's bad business practice. It's not up to you to judge if a call is important or not, if someone wants to talk to you then talk to them, it's your job as a property manager.
