Culpepper Cleaners - dry cleaning nightmare

Subject: dry cleaning nightmare

Here's what happened: I dropped off three dresses to be dry cleaned at the Culpepper Cleaners and asked if I'd need to pay then or after the dresses returned. The person (a lady, whom I still don't remember nor do I know her name to this day) said I'd pay afterwards.

She and I looked at the dresses and I pointed out a stain in one of the dresses that needed attention. I also asked how much dry cleaning would be and was told that it would be $9 and that velvet would be maybe $1 or $2 more. I was given a ticket to pick up the dresses at the end of the week, which did not have a price on it. I returned Oct. 5, almost two weeks later to pick up the dresses and was charged $71. Upset I asked why and explained that I'd been told it would $9 per dress. She said dresses are done for $9.05, but that formals are extra. I was not told this when I dropped them off. She called the manager who agreed to do a 20 percent discount. This reduced the bill to under $56, still too much. So I spoke to the manager who said that because I didn't remember whom I'd spoken with and that no price had been written on the ticket that he had no way of knowing if I (the customer) was lying or not and that I had to see things from his perspective as a business owner. Then he tried to insult my intelligence by telling me that they didn't have cleaning that was $9, simply because I didn't mention the five cents earlier. As I felt I had no other choice, I paid for two of the dresses, making sure to inspect them before leaving and found that one of the dresses had what looked like some kind of oil stain and powdery dust/film which the lady couldn't rub off. I told her that stain was not there before and wanted it taken out. Today, Oct. 6, I called back to speak with the manager to tell him about this and he called me a liar, saying that the stain was already there and that it was really some rub out on the material caused by someone stepping on it and that I was trying to get out paying the bill. In reality, it looks like scorch marks from some sort of iron or press. I have never been so insulted in my life. I think their business practices are deceptive because they don't print on the ticket when you drop off the clothes what the price is so that they can go back later

and lie about what they charge. And, on top of that they ruined my dress and don't want to admit it because they'd have to pay for it and that Culpepper feels he is immune to honesty and fairness. I also think he has an attitude because he feels that EVERY complaint is designed to try and bring down a dry cleaners when all I'm trying to do is get my clothes clean. The dry cleaning should have been given to me at the price I was told by his own employees. If they didn't write down nor notify me that formal gowns were extra, when they looked at the dresses themselves, that's their fault. Not mine! tp --
