Radisson Hotel - Richmond, VA Greetings,
I am writing to express my grief and utter disappointment with the Radisson Hotel located at 300 W. Franklin Street in Richmond, VA. I had never been to the Radisson and had no idea the parking situation would be so bad. Using Mapquest, I followed the directions to the hotel for a Seminar being held there on 10/4/04. I paid $179 for the seminar and drove 2 hours to attend this particular session (I live 110 miles away in Chesapeake, VA) only to damage a brand new 2004 Kia Sorento.
When I arrived at the hotel, I saw no mention of the Seminar being held or where attendees could park. I followed the signs indicating that general parking was beneath the hotel. I carefully drove down into the worst dive I have ever had the displeasure to encounter. It was filthy, dimly lit and not a place I would recommend for a professional forum. On top of that, the recent rains had washed water and debris down into the lower levels making it very uninviting and smelly.
As I drove down deeper I discovered the parking was atrocious. The cars in the parking spaces were so close to one another, one could barely open doors or get out without bumping the car next to you. As I drove around searching for a spot I realized if I wanted to attend this seminar I would have to squeeze into a space and hope no one banged my doors getting in their own car. I attempted to pull into a spot and my driver side mirror was completely shattered. I was pissed! I spent the next 35 minutes on the phone with my insurance company; causing me to miss portions of the seminar.
When I went to the front desk, I told the young lady at the counter what had happened and asked if there was anything the hotel could do. She referred me to a gentleman also working the front desk area. He immediately told me "NO". He then thought better of it and began to apologize. Had I known the parking situation (dungeon) was going to be the way it was, I would have waited until 2005 to catch the seminar in Norfolk, VA instead. No one warned us parking was not going to be driver-friendly. It was a dump. There is no other way to put it. I am accustomed to clean, well-lit parking garages that make me feel safe. This is not it.
Following lunch, a good portion of the group was 20 minutes or later returning to the seminar because the hotel's credit card machine was not working. We ultimately had to be rerouted to the front desk where it took them another 10 minutes to figure out an alternate way for us to pay. I am usually not a person who likes to complain and although every business has a bad day, technology problems, etc. the Radisson staff seemed shorthanded and very flustered. I am not happy about the damage to my car and I will not be referring business to this or any other Radisson location. I will, however, be sharing my experience with others and negative news always travels faster than good news.
I have notified Fred Pryor seminars that this location should not be used in the future due to the lack of adequate and safe parking and the fact that I damaged my vehicle will certainly veto any further visits to any Radisson. I will also notify my corporate office that I would not recommend this hotel for any corporate affairs or stay overs. No one wants damage done to their car and everyone wants to be safe.
Thank you for listening.
