The service department at Sentry Ford in Medford Mass recently took $150 and gave my truck back to me in worse condition that I when it went in for service. I brought it to them complaining of stalling on idle when warming up, idling too high, an error code 213 related to ignition timing advance and a code related to EGR systems. I delt with an individual there by the name of Jeff. I asked him what it would cost to give it a full diagnostic on their computer, not simply pull the codes and they said that the minimum charge would be $150.
When they were done Jeff said that the whole problem was because the connector on the EGR valve sensor was loose. I asked him again if he was sure if this is what caused the other problems and if the computer diagnostic verified this, he assured me it was. When I arrived he told me that the mechanic had fixed the contacts on the connector and the engine light was off. I asked to speak to the mechanic, I asked him what he thought about the ignition timing error code (213) and he seemed surprised, he did not even check that.
He told me that some of the engines just do that it didnt mean anything. I later found out that this isnt the case and that there was a problem and that if he had done the diagnostic that I paid for he would have reported that problem as well. The mechanic also remarked to me that it had some hesitation when he test drove it.
I asked him if he had run the full diagnostic that I paid for and he said no, only checked the error code related to the check engine light. When I drove the car away there was a distinct hesitation that wasnt there before. None of the problems that I brought the vehicle in to be tested for had been addressed. In addition Jeff the service person had lied to me about what the mechanic had done and became agitated with me saying that there was another problem and that if I wanted them to diagnose that it would cost me additional money.
I would like to add that I had to take my vehicle to them for warranty work when I first bought it and they did significant damage to my engine during their work at that time. I needed valve seals replaced and in the process they had to put in a new water pump, power steering pump bracket and head dowel pin. These things should not have been broken during this repair. I would warn people to stay away from this shop, they have no interest in providing the services that they charge for and lie to you about the work that they have done on your vehicle.
