The premise for purchasing a seiko kinetic watch was the relief of no longer having to bother with batteries and the fact that the watch should deliver reliable timw without fault.

This was the case for a 3-4 year period, then all of a sudden the watch would either stop or lose several hours while I was sleeping.

I checked the watch and although it often showed a full charge ,if I took the watch off it would stop within a half hour.

Yesterday I went to the local seiko service center and within 5 minutes was told my watch would need a new capacitor and an overhaul which was a $75.00 charge.

I can buy a lot of batteries for $75.00 and even if Iwere to have it repaired it seems as though this is an inherent problem with their kinetic watches.

When a person buys the Cadillac of watches, one expects quality and durability.

If this watch was a car it would have certainly been recalled. Seiko has been making this product for several years and appears to have done nothing to improve it.

Perhaps seiko should study the history of the Ford Edsel, and review the reults of poor quality.

Last of all I think I will purchase another Casio watch. Not as famous as seiko but a lot cheaper and I have a Casio sitting in a drawer still running on the same battery that has outlived 2 seiko watches. Casio now offers solar powered watches or watches with a battery life of 10 years.

Unless seiko does something to change my mind, we have to remember that 30 years ago hardly anyone knew about seiko and perhaps it will return to oblivion.

Hmmm!! VERY much a common thread; my kinetic lasted about 3 years and pft.... I, too, would have expected the watch to last much longer, and the irritation I feel about the no-battery BS makes me feel somewhat jaded... I gotta say, let's face it the Kinetic range are so cool in terms of style, they stand out to me. But this rubbish about 3 years and then zip, its happening too often to too many people and it's disappointing.

I too have a Seiko Kinetic Auto Relay Titanium. I paid the $75 plus for the new capacitor which i think is absurd after four years. I would have spent $24 on batteries for this time on my previous watch which i ran for over ten years at this price. I wore the watch post repair for a year and a half and is now displaying the same symptoms. I agree that these watches should have been recalled. I agree they are nice and the titanium is light but it is a complete farce that the cost to run probably outweighs the environmental benefits.

I have had a Seiko Kinetic for 9 years - worn it almost every day and it hasn't lost more than a couple of seconds a year. It has now just up and stopped and apparently needs a new capacitor. I loved it so much, I have just bought a brand new one and am having the old one repaired. They are nice looking watches with understated style, without all the bells and whistles.

Just bought one (Kinetic Prepetual) for the same reason, still new and never wore it. SEIKO recommends that the wtah needs to be worn at least 10 hours a day. Mine is still in the Box (ticking) and here are my observations: After shaking the watch for about 2 mins, timed it to the TV weather channel ans let it sit over night. in the morning I found my watch to be behind 4 to 5 seconds but after shaking for a min or so it caught up....to about less than a second apart --- strange
