Malfunctioning Gas Pump - K & D Maraton, 165th & Homan Ave, Hammond, Ind

October 29, 2004 K & D Marathon, 165th & Hohman Ave, Hammond, IN. 46324, I believe has a malfunctioning gas pump. I was standing at my gas tank and I looked at the pump's gauge indicator going upward when I decided to get some towels for cleaning my car windows. I heard a gushing sound and looked around to see gas squirting upwards and around the area of my car. Evidently the auto-shut- off handle wasn't working properly. It was a matter of seconds before the gas settle enough for me to cut the pump off. A customer ran into the store and got an employee to help clean up the spill and look at the pump. The employee could not make a decision about what caused the problem but the customer said the "cup" or "shield" wasn't fixed on the handle properly. So, I asked the manager to come out and check on the the problem and she refused and told me it was my fault. I asked her to compensate me for the gas I lost at least. She only offered to direct me to the washroom to clean my shoes. She continued to repeat that there was no problem with the pump or handle and, it had to be my fault. I asked her to give me the EPA phone number because I felt there was a potential for this to happen to another person and a great chance that someone could be seriously hurt since she didn't care to investigate this problem. And, fortunately, for me I wasn't near my car's gas tank when the gas gushed out ! I have never had a problem using the auto-shut off handle before and I am a very responsible person. I would like for my complaint to be considered to the fullest extent that justice will allow. Please let me know what I should do? (Oh yes, I paid for the gas in my tank and what was on the the ground too.)
