Greetings.

Below is a e-mail paper trail of a dispute we have with Travelocity UK. Basically what has happened is that the company quoted us a price for two airline tickets at USD $401 each then charged us $741.01 each, claiming that the site was in GBP and that we should have seen this. We have a copy of the form showing the price quotes in USD but not the confirmation form due to computer internet problems, which we have documented with our internet provider.

To the company's credit, their site has been corrected and now shows prices in GBP. However, their refusal to acknowledge their error of quoting initially in USD and then changing to GBP later, when were charged, is in our minds pure corporate greed. We feel that Travelocity UK should do one of the following:

1. Honor their price in the currency it was quoted originally on the page (USD 401).

2. Offer the same price as their US site offered on the same day (About USD 560).

3. Offer to negate the entire transaction.

We ask for your help in seeking an ethical solution, which the company so far refuses to consider. We can provide any documentation that would be helpful. Thank you for any help that you can give us in this matter.

In the United States what your company has done is called "Bait and Switch". This is when you give you one price and then change it. In our country it is neither moral nor legal. I find it interesting that in Great Britian such deceptive business practices are acceptable. I also find it quite interesting that since I have brought this to your attention, your web site has changed. It no longer quotes in Dollars but now says all prices are in GBP. I am still confused though, that if the site was supposed to quote in USD, because as you say I am registered in the US, why was it not a correct dollar quote? And your giving me a lecture on reading carefully has only made me angrier. Basically you said it is OK for you to misquote the price, and it is my fault for believing your website. Now I will I let everyone I know learn about your shoddy business practices. I have also notified my credit card company, and will be in touch with my lawyer. What you have done may be legal, but it is not moral. I may not win, but I will fight.

Dear Ms Conway

After further investigation I can advise Travelocity are unable to authorise a refund due to the fact that you are registered on the Travelocity.co.uk . Your quotes will initially appear in USD, as this is the country with which you are booking from and the preference you have selected in your profile. However as this was a UK site you booked on, when proceeding with your purchase it will finalise it in Great British Pounds.

We have looked at the path you took during the booking process and attempted to recreate the search. We can advise that the price is initially quoted in USD however during the purchase and the final confirmation page, this changes to Great British Pounds. The confirmation you then receive will also be in GBP.

Ms Conway it is extremely important that you carefully review passenger information/itinerary details and that you understand the policies, rules, and restrictions of the desired fare before entering your credit card information to purchase your reservation. By entering your credit card information and clicking "Complete Reservation" you are acknowledging that you have read and accept the terms and conditions of the fare. We are required therefore to charge the necessary cancellation fees should you wish to proceed.

We do apologise we could not be of further assistance in this matter but sincerely hope this has clarified your queries.

Yours sincerely

Dear Linda

Thank you for the recent email.

I am in receipt of your recent fax, however this does not show the page where dollars was quoted on the UK site. Unfortunately as previously stated we can not offer any type of refund on this fare as this was booked via the UK site rather than the US site.

We appreciate this may not be the answer you were anticipating, but all terms and conditions have been agreed to on line before confirming the reservation.

Greetings.

I have the copy of the web site where it showed your UK site quoting American dollars for prices, and would be happy to fax it to you.

Also, your American branch customer relations department admitted that the site had it in American dollars, but refused to honor a refund since the confirmation page (lost due to computer problems here - I can verify that with our Internet service) said pounds. However, that is after the transaction took place and we were committed to the sale, so that makes no difference. We spoke to Patrick at 888-709-5983.

Again, I ask for a full refund or the US price that was quoted, or the price given by the US site, which was about $500 per ticket.

We are also contacting the credit card company and initiating grievance procedures.

Dear Ms C

Thank you for the recent email sent, contents of which have been duly noted.

After investigating this for you I can advise that Travelocity.co.uk only ever quote in GBP not USD, as we are Uk based we do not have the facility to offer prices in other currencies other than our own.

If you wish to cancel this reservation we can offer a tax refund only but we can not honour a full refund on this reservation.

We appreciate this may not have been the answer you were anticipating and we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

October 19, 2004 Travelocity Consumer Relations Department 8750 Tesoro Dr. Suite 100 San Antonio, Texas 78217 Re: Trip ID # GECPIB Dear Sir or Madam: I purchased 2 tickets online on the 1st of October 2004. Being a novice to the internet, I did not realize there are more than one company "Travelocity" from which to purchase airline tickets. Usually my daughter, Elizabeth, acts as my travel agent but she was ill. I thought I'd manage by myself. Elizabeth suggested I use "Travelocity". However typing in Travelocity into the search engine Google, brought me to your site. The "per person" amount listed on the flight I booked was $401.00 (not &#163401). Because we were having trouble with our internet connection I was unable to print the page at which I was looking. I had clicked on "email" the confirmation before I lost the page, but thought all was well. Imaging my surprise when I checked on the e-mail confirmation at a later date and found I was charged $741.01 per ticket. When I told my daughter she quickly realized I had ordered from "Travelocity UK", not the US Travelocity. She thought, at first, it was my fault and I had not realized that the amount given was in British pounds. I on the other hand was sure that everything was in US Dollars. My daughter went to your site to retrace my steps, and found it does show the Dollar ($) sign for the amounts. The site also clearly stated then and now that the prices shown are in US Dollars. My daughter called your office on 8 October 2004, and spoke to Esther in costumer service. She said the web site she was looking at showed the price in pounds. My daughter explained she was looking at the price in US Dollars ($). Esther advised us to fax a cover letter explaining all of this to you along with a copy of the screen as we saw in on 8 October 2004 (unfortunately as stated, I do not have a copy from 01 October due to internet problems). The printed page clearly shows Travelocity.co.uk with the prices in US Dollars. I am very upset at the cost being almost twice what I thought it was. If this had been my fault I would have chalked it up to a learning experience, but I do not feel this is the case. I thank you in advance for any help you can provide in this matter. I feel strongly that remuneration is in order. I hope that we can amicably solve this and do not need to pursue more strident measures. Sincerely, Linda J. C &#160 &#160 From Larry C The website http://res/travelocity.co.uk/airloutbound.ctl?promo_page=Y&chld_

pax_cnt=0&dep_dt_dy_1=9&dep... had the listing in US dollars when we made the reservation. My suspicion is that your US mirror site had the error of listing prices in US dollars instead of pounds. I also note that the error has been fixed by your company. Again, we have tried repeatedly to send the webpage to you by FAX, only to be told later "Oh, that is a wrong number" or the fax machine was not working properly on your end. Again, we expect either a full refund or the quoted price on the website on that day, which was in US dollars. I hope we do not have to pursue this further with outside parties, and look forward to a prompt reply.
