On 10-24-2004 I purchased some groceries and went home. Once I got home I realized that I had left one of my bags containing my groceries at Target. I called Target and the operator kept trying to transfer me to guest relations. Sine guest relations would not answer the phone it kept ringing back to the operator. After about 15 minutes of this I decided to just go back to Target.
When I got there, with my receipt, I went to guest relations where I found four employees all standing around talking to each other. Finally, an employee noticed me and I explained my situation to her and showed her the receipt. She checked a log book, said my groceries weren't logged and she'd have to go ask a manager what to do. Keep in mind I am talking about only 10-15 dollars worth of groceries here. When she got back she said the manager told her to take my name and number and if someone had taken them on accident and decided to bring the groceries back then they'd call me and I could make another trip to Target to get my groceries.
I told them this was unacceptable and that I wanted to speak to the manager myself. The employee went to get the manager and after about 10 minutes they came back. The manager then repeated what the employee had said about how to get my groceries back and I again said that this was unacceptable. The manager told me she'd be right back. About 15 minutes later she came back, said I was right someone else had taken the bag and I could follow her through the store to replace my groceries.
She knew this because she went and watched the security tape. I asked her if she ended up watching the tape anyway why didn't they do that to begin with instead of making me go through that and stand there for 30 to 45 minutes. Her response was that "regular" employees didn't have access to the security tapes. I told her she'd been involved in what was going on from the very beginning and she could have done that in the first place. Her response was to lead me through the store to get my items and each time I picked one up she looked at the item and compared it to the receipt. Finally when I was done she handed me the bag, said there you go, and walked off. No apology for my inconvenience, nothing. Target made me feel like I had done something wrong. I'm not too sure I will shop there again.
