NASE

NASE, the National Association of Self Employed, sells health insurance through the Mega Life and Health company that is bogus.

I was assured by the salesman that I was covered for anything over $5,000 in a calendar year, but when I had acute appendicitis and gathered $27,000 in medical bills, I found that the small print, very small print, states that Mega Life and Health pays only "covered expenses".

That means they'll send me up to $5,200 for the hospital stay and that is that. I don't even know yet if I will get that much, although it's been four months. Nothing else is covered, not the emergency room, or the x-rays or the anesthesiologist, not the surgeon, not the antibiotics, nothing. Do not buy this so-called health insurance. You can't afford it if anything happens to you.

The agent lied, the insurance wasn't as promised And we lost comprehensive coverage as a result.  Further, Mega Life not NASE sent a letter dated Dec. 15th 2007 advising of a change in policy that wasn't exactly clear.  ON Jan. 4th we were debited the $40 membership fee.  On Jan. 7th we cancelled but NASE never credited the account until May 08 and only after advising that I would go to the MD AGO.Very disingenious and lousy coverage!!!

We purchased this Health Insurance Plan on May 13, 2007. I received a declination letter dated May 23, 2007 which is what was expected. However, the letter goes on to say "All other applicants have been issued" Note: "have been" and the date of the letter. The other applicant was my husband

On May 26th at about 3pm my husband was admitted to the hospital with congestive heart failure. As of Tuesday, the declination letter is all I had so I called the company to get my husband's ID numbers. I told the clerk that he had been hospitalized on 5/26. She put me on hold and when she came back, I was told that his coverage didn't go into effect until 5/27.

They screwed around for several months asking for copies of doctors reports even as to sending for information from a clinic that my husband has never used. And I might add, this is the first time my husband has been ill in our 35 years of marriage.

Now that the declination letters have hit the providers the bills have gone to collection even though I have made a complaint to the Commissioner of Insurance. One provider even made a mark on my credit report.

I have about $8000 in bills that should be covered. They cashed my check on May 24, 2007.

To make matters worse, they are now saying that since my husband was admitted on 5/26 that this constitutes a preexisting condition and that they will not cover anything related to his heart for a year.

We are stuck. Obviously, we can't get coverage elsewhere but I hate to keep paying premium to this company that can't seem to live up to their own words: "all other applicants HAVE been issued."

I would just like to say, My wife and I got stuck with this insurance and we pay more a month then they cover a month for what ever it is. I have to cut this crap insurance off just so I can pay the bills my self. Its amazing and I think someone should get everyone together on this so we can get a class action suit against them, If anyone knows someone that got stuck that can organize this I would gladly help pay for the lawyer fees, can be anymore than what Im paying now for nothing!!
