Reservation - Who cares ?

I planned our move in advance, or so I thought so.

Our move to the new house was October 1st & 2nd 2004. By making my reservation on-line I was sure to have a truck on those days.

So I reserved the truck on the September 27th and requested a 26' truck for 24hr of use.

The following day a representative called to confirm the reservation and to let me know which branch would have the truck.Great!

So the day of the move finally arrives......with no truck. Thanks to U-haul and their care-less attitude.

The day of the move I get a call from U-haul at 7:55 AM letting me know the truck is available. That's it nothing more, nothing less.

I left for the office and called them to let them know what time I would be picking it up. Well excuse me for not reading between the lines, but there policy says it's got to be back before 7AM the next morning.I said what?

U-hauls web-site mentions nothing about NOT being able to pick it up at my convenience. And no one from U-haul mentioned that on the first call. Shouldn't U-haul have explained there customer un-friendly policy on the first call or should I have guessed it.

There was no way I could pick it up before 3PM as I had to work.Besides I gave them my card details and I was "in essence" prepared to pay for the damn thing.

So as I try and resolve this problem through customer service, the truck is leased out from under me.

The lady in U-Hauls' Broward County central office says to me "Did you think that we can have this truck standing there waiting for you the whole day to pick it up". - What a lovely anti-customer comment, I thought. So I told her your company sucks.

I try customer service - central, thinking hmmmm, maybe I'll get some friendly help. No Way. The lady (or should I even call her that) that picks up, sounds like she is the torture maiden from hell.

I tell her about my problem and all she says is,"Someone from our Broward office will call you within 30 minutes". So I try and explain again, that I have not received any help from the Broward location, and in mid sentence she hangs up on me.

So I gave up dealing with U-haul and their crap. So I went with Penske Truck Rental and they had superb and friendly customer service.

If U-haul thinks they are going to charge my credit card, they will not get away with it.
