Verizon phone installation Greetings
I recently moved from one side of town to the other. I made arrangements well in advance (over a month), ordering the disconnect at the old location and the hook-up at the new location, for both phone service and DSL. The start date was 11/24/04.
On that day there was no phone or internet. Calling from my wife's job, I was told that the phone order was in and it would be on by 5 p.m. It was not. The next day was Thanksgiving, so I tried again on Friday 11/26/04.
The business offices were closed, but I was able to get through to repair, and they told me that my number could not be turned on because the previous owner (now in England) had never cancelled their account, and that I would have to call on Monday and go through the business office. On Monday (today) I was on the phone for forty minutes, only to find out that the phone service would not be turned on until Wednesday 12/1/04, because they supposedly have to do work on the pole, as there are no available pairs for my house, even though several months ago there were two active phone numbers in that house. As far as DSL, it's anyone's guess. Verizon cannot call me back to tell me, obviously.
While all the people at Verizon that I spoke to were polite and professional, the experience has been absolutely unsatisfactory. We will have been in a new house for eight days with no way to communicate, no way to call or e-mail or recieve calls or e-mail. We are unable to call the fuel company (this is Maine in November), getting sick pets to the vet has been a nightmare, and God forbid that there is an emergency of any kind.
I went to great legnths to call it in with plenty of notice, and I recieve different information every time I call. I have been credited one months service, which I appreciate, but that is little comfort at the moment when I have to drive acrosss town to use the phone. Not a good experience.
