Dell Computer Complaint

Here is a copy of a letter I am sending to Dell's Corporate Headquarters: I would like for you to be aware of a recent transaction (or lack there of) between your company and myself. The reason of why I am sending this to you, is that I read in Michael Dell's bio at www.dell.com, and it stated, "the company he founded in 1984 with $1,000 and an unprecedented idea — to build relationships directly with customers." and I found what happened to be a complete lack of your company trying to build any sort of relationship with me.

I have had an Inspiron 2650 for over two years now (the system itself has run wonderfully), but in the duration of the two years, the AC adapter has malfunctioned twice. Just today, I tried to contact your company to get a replacement AC adapter. After ten minutes of having your phone system forward me over to different destinations and randomly disconnect me; I finally got connected. I told your representative, (exact words) "I need a replacement AC adapter for my Inspiron 2650 series laptop", she then started asking me to boot up my system and tell her if I have any application problems. I then restated the problem, telling her exactly what the problem is and that all they need to do for is locate a replacement part for me.

She was unable to understand exactly what I was saying (her English was very poor). After a couple of unnecessary minutes, she finally transferred me to a disconnected number. Frustrated, I went to your website, and bought the first AC adapter I could find (I can't use my laptop until I get an adapter!). As a last ditch effort, after I purchased the adapter from your website, I went to www.ebay.com and found an AC adapter that is designed for my model number for half the price (including shipping), I then called back your company to try and cancel my recent order.

I then spoke to another person with very broken English (I have a hard time understanding thick accents) and told her to cancel the order. She said she did cancel the order, and I requested that she would send me an email confirmation immediately.

She asked for my email address and said she would email me immediately. I never received the email. An hour later, I contacted your company again, and spoke to a representative named "Eric". I asked Eric if the order had been cancelled, and he said, that it was never cancelled. I asked him if he could do it, and he said yes. He put me on hold for two minutes, and then told me that it was taken care of. I asked him if I could receive an email confirmation stating that it was cancelled.

He said he would not. I then requested to speak with a supervisor, and he put me on hold for 25 minutes before I got disconnected from you. I went back online, checked the status of the order, and it finally said it was cancelled (at least someone did something right). I am a computer trainer / consultant for one of Chicago's biggest training centers. I get queries from my students and clients almost every week about which computers they should buy.

Due to such horrible customer service, I will never buy another Dell product or recommend anyone to buy Dell again. In the past, I have always recommended to them to buy a Dell because of your fantastic prices and the fact that (minus the AC adapter) I have never had any problems with my computer.
