(sorry I fixed a date typo error so am resending update) DISCOVER CARD FRAUD PROBLEM ACCOUNT HOLDER FOR 15 YEARS WITH PERFECT PAYMENT HISTORY TREATED TERRIBLY BY CUSTOMER SERVICE AFTER MY MAIL WAS STOLEN AND DISCOVER CASH ADVANCE CHECKS INCLUDED WITH THE MONTHLY STATEMENT USED FRAUDULENTLY PHONE LOG WITH DISCOVER CARD REGARDING STOLEN CHECKS AND DISCOVERS BAD BEHAVIOR REGARDING IT 11/8/04 Mon Discover called me in the afternoon leaving a FRAUD ALERT message on my home answer machine and my 70 year old mother-in-law picked up. 7pm I called Discover, told rep that someone called from their fraud department and I detected fraud in my bank account. Phone rep said Discover talked with my wife. (FALSE STATEMENT #1). I told Discover that they did not talk to my wife today but instead they talked with my mother-in-law. Discover rep then said she cannot discuss the account and the security department is investigating and will hear back on Wednesday. I reconfirmed with Discover phone rep and she said YES that DISCOVER will call me back on Wednesday. (FALSE STATEMENT #2). 11/10/04 Wed 7pm - No call from Discover, called 1-800-347-2683, automated system, entered credit card number and last 4 of social and was automatically transferred to the SECURITY DEPARTMENT. We are closed message, our office hours are 8am to 6pm Mon- .., call back or leave a message. I left a message with my name and tel number. 11/12/04 Fri 2:20pm-3pm Still no call back from security department. No call from Discover, called 1-800-347-2683, automated system, entered credit card number and last 4 of social and was connected to a rep. Told her I was still trying to find out about the fraud on my account. She acted like she didnt know anything about it. I explained I called on Monday and the rep told me someone would call back on Wednesday but I didnt get a call.
And when I called Wednesday after work the security department was closed. The rep said sir we are open 24hours so I dont understand what your saying. (INCOMPENTENCE OR LYING, DISCOVER SECURITY DEPARTMENT CLOSES AT 6PM and I WAS AUTOAMTICALLY TRANSFERRED TO THAT OFFICE WHEN I CALLED IN ON WEDNESDAY.) Rep then asked me to explain the problem and I explained my mail stolen, etc. She then said she was transferring me to the security department Betty. Talked with Betty (in Discover Card Security Department). She said she was told about the situation from the previous Rep but then said now tell me about your mother in laws account. So I explained the whole situation for a 2nd time to Betty. First Betty said sir I dont understand that you left a message on Wednesday as we are open 24hours I then told her my call was automatically transferred to the security department and IT WAS CLOSED. I then asked her SECURITY DEPARTMENT office hours. Betty said to 6pm, can I help you further. I then said I cannot call until I get out of work at 5:30pm and that is why I couldnt get through. Betty then said again sir we are open to 6pm. implying that 5:30pm should be fine. I then asked Betty what time zone she was in, said mountain I think, I told her that my 5:30pm would be later than her 6pm. (INCOMPENTENCE #1) Betty then said what can I help you with. I then said I wanted to know of any fraudulent checks written to my account. She said we talked to your wife on Nov 8th about it. I told her that Discover DID NOT talk to my wife on November 8th. And that my 70 year old mother in law answered the phone and thought the call was from her bank regarding the fraud. And they talked to her about my account but she thought she was talking to her bank. (Ermelinda told me that they asked her did James write any checks, and she told them no.)
Betty then said that is impossible as Discover would not talk to my mother in law about my account. I told her that is what must of happened as they didnt talk to my wife and then BETTY asked WHY IS YOUR MOTHER-IN-LAW impersonating your wife. ( SLANDEROUS ACUSATION as Ive known my mother-in-law for 30 years and is an honest individual and has never impersonated anyone.) Betty then said no fraud was done to my Discover account and do you have any further questions.
She said no checks were written past the 9th and she only has checks written prior to then. (LIE - I received copy of a Discover check from the bank that was written Nov 10th.). I then informed her that I did not write any checks recently from this account so if she has any checks written in Nov it would be a problem. She said that is not what you said, you said the fraud started on Nov 9th. Betty was then very argumentive saying my story doesnt make sense, that I stated the fraud started on Nov 9th but she has a check for Nov 7th. (SLANDEROUS AND DECEIVING Bettys comment really confused me because she didnt say she was going by the date written on the check by the thief and not by when they were used.
Confirmed after with my bank what Betty didnt reveal is that the Discover checks were presented to an my bank via ATM MACHINE on Nov 9th and 10th for payment.) I then told Betty, look the fraud at my bank started Nov 9th, nobody has told me of any fraud prior to then, and if you have fraud prior to this date then you need to inform me as this is my account and I should know of any fraud on it. Bettys arrogant reply to this was can I help you any further? I then asked again, was there any fraudulent checks written on my account. Betty said NO (LIE AGAIN).
I told Betty I was really confused now because the bank told me that 3 of the fraudulent deposits came from my discover account. Betty said can I help you further. I then told Betty that my bank told me this and I dont understand that she is saying no checks were written. Betty then told me I should get a copy of the checks from my bank, can I help you further. So I said then let me confirm these check numbers that the bank gave me, was there any checks written from my Discover account with checks (deleted here for privacy) BETTY now SAID YES. (DECEIVING AGAIN, BETTY HAS THE 3 FRAUDULENT CHECKS RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER. Here we go again with BETTY telling me NO FRAUD WAS DONE TO MY ACCOUNT and 5 minutes later telling me CHECKS WERE WRITTEN from my account.) I told Betty I did not write these checks.
Betty said that Discover did not pay them so it is not fraud or a problem for my account. Betty said can I help you further. I said then are you saying my account is perfectly fine. Betty said yes, can I help you further. (LIE AGAIN). I then asked Betty to confirm again that there is no problem with my account and it is open. Betty then said the account was CLOSED. (MISLEADING STATEMENTS AGAIN FROM BETTY) CONSUMER BEWARE. I DONT USE DISCOVER ANYMORE BUT INSTEAD USE OTHER CREDIT CARDS SUCH AS AMERICAN EXPRESS, CITI-BANK, OR MBNA. These companies respectfully handled my calls and helped me with any problem. Discover treated me like I was the thief calling.
