Staff attitude I have had a very bad experience at the Tesco Cheltenham Store, Colletts Drive, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, GL51 8JQ and I am very angry. On 14th November 2004 Sunday, I was doing last minute shopping at the store. About 3.30 pm the fire alarm went off so we all had to go outside and we went back to the store about 3.45 pm. It was chaos, but my little daughter and I tried to complete our shopping as soon as possible following my shopping list. And then, just after 4.00 pm, I was still trying to finish my shopping when a Security staff came and told me to go to the checkout. I said that I would and I did. At the till I found two customers in front of me, so I thought that to use the waiting time I could purchase two additional bottles of wine because the till was near the wine department.

I left my trolley at the till I went to the wine department and was picking up two bottles of wine, when the Security man came to me and said, “Go to the till”. So I abandoned the bottles. When I was waiting at the till he came to me and pointed to me, saying with a threatening and angry face, “I warn you if you do this again I will execute you because this is against the law”. I have never been spoken to like this in my life. I was very embarrassed because he did it in front of my daughter who became very upset, and all the customers looked at me as if I were a shoplifter. I thought what was the law? If I were still in the queue and purchased a couple of bottles of wine, is it anybody’s loss, but the store’s? When I left the store I was not the last, still there were many customers. Now I am re-thinking the situation and I am very unsatisfied because I still do not understand the Security staff’s attitude towards me and I cannot accept it. H.W
