Black & Decker Fire Storm 14.4 battery charger

The battery charger for my Black and Decker Fire Storm 14.4 Volt drill driver stopped working. The drill is in perfect condition but is usless without a good charger. I feel the charger should last as long as the drill and the price of a replacement is outrageous if one can find one which I cannot.

Is it a common practice of Black & Decker to make short lived chargers in order to sell more drill drivers. I visited with an employee of our local Mills Fleet Farm and I was the third person in the past week with the same complaint on the same charger. I would like Black & Decker to send me a new charger at no cost. Thank you

My B & D 14.4V chager has died. As I am electrical technician I opened the charger to repair it. The entire charger is under-engineered. All the power components are scorched brown, the regulating transistor had finally blowen taking with it the AC step down transformer.

Very disapointed, as I joint the mass of people with a perfectly good drill perfectly useless.

I am probably one of the few people who did buy the better charger when the cheap one died. I have had no problems with the better charger and I am a heavy user of my drill. I have also replaced both of the original batteries I bought with it. Last weekend, the transmission last the high torque setting. Am I happy about it? No, but I am quite sure I have gotten my money's worth out of the drill over the last 6 or 7 years.

Thank you, I was going to buy a B&D drill and will pass on it. Shame on them. I agree.

Thanks,

Tommy

Add me to the list of disgruntled Firestorm 14.4 drill users who's battery charger died. I opened it up and found no blown fuses or anything obvious to fix.

I have had a similar problem with a cordless B&D 7221, 7.2 volt battery and charger. Nice bit of kit until the battery and/or charger failed after I had used the drill three times. I have been trying recently to find a replacement and cannot do so. Shame on Black & Decker! I only buy Bosch these days.

ditto for me. About 4 years ago I bought the 14.4V drill "firestorm". I have maybe used it 3 times and had not used it again in probably 18 months. The charger is not only NOT working, but it has a crack in the bottom and it looks a little melted. Has anyone had any luck on obtaining a new charger from Black and Decker? I agree that the charger prices are outrageous! Kathy

Count me in. As a result, I have vowed never to buy any Black & Decker products ~ ever. I have brought three chargers and four batteries and finally realized that a bad battery shorted these chargers. Crappy and unreliable engineering quality check-up. They used to be fantastic; but alas it has gone down the tube. Now I am looking into DeWalt. Black & Decker ~ shame on you!
