SANSUI DVD Player -The worst thing one can buy
Hello. I am Ratan Kumar Singh, a Cost Accountant from Hyderabad. I bought a DVD player of SANSUI on 14.02.2004 as a Valentine Day gift for my wife. In the month of October2004, I tried to listen to a CD and switched on the DVD player to found that there is no power coming to the system neither there is anything on the display screen.
I took the player to the local authorized service centre and the initial diagnosis was a probable blown-up fuse and I was informed that the service charge would be Rs.330 plus any material charges if fitted. I left it there and after 7days, our smart technician from SANSUI called up to say the DVD card has been blown up and it needs a replacement which would cost around Rs.3000. When asked why it took so long to diagnose this problem, I was told that the delay was due to Festival Holidays (2 days including a Sunday). With so many new companies competing in the electronics market, the price of DVD players have come to as low as Rs.2990. and when I expressed my unhappiness over this, I was told that there would be 45days warranty on the service and that the quality of picture would be better with SANSUI. They were successful in convincing me and when I gave my agreement for repair, they told they would call me back once the system is ready.
Indeed they called me up saying my system is ready and I can collect it between 10am to 6pm on any working day. So I reached the workshop on Saturday (06.11.2004) at 5.35pm and had to wait till 6.45pm to be seen by my technician. Finally he came and was showing me how good the product is working when I noticed that the CD-tray is coming out automatically and sometimes TRAY-ERROR is displayed on the screen. Sometimes it said UNKNOWN CD.
So our gentleman was too polite to send me back empty-handed with a vague assurance that it would be under observation for one day and may be on Tuesday (09.11.2004), I can collect the player. I called up again on the said date and was courteously told that I would be contacted when my player would be ready. Today is Wednesday, November 10, 2004 and am still waiting to get a call from the service centre. So my question to the company, (i) Does a DVD card blows up just after the warranty is expired? (ii)Does it take a week to diagnose the problem in a DVD player? (iii) Does the company have instructed its technicians to call customers to service centre and wait like fools even though the system is not ready? Ironically there is no provision available on the website of SANSUI to report this complain. Hope, other buyers would think about SANSUI products and services before they buy one.
