Monitronics alarm monitoring ripoff

I fulfilled a three year contract with monitronics in July 2003. As we had sold the home that had been the subject of the contract and moved out of state, I notified them by phone we would not be renewing the contract.

We were told to send them a letter to that effect, and they would take care of it. They continue to bill us and threaten collection, even though they have not had a location to monitor since last July.

They even increased the monthly rate of the service they are not providing, and are trying to charge late fees. Numerous phone calls I have made to them have been fruitless, and many of their employees have been rude and abusive on the phone.

I've written several letters to them explaining the situation, and that I refuse to pay for something never provided. Never received a response to any of my letters, only additional bills threatening collection action.

I have a recommendation for anyone unfortunate enough to have these people as your monitoring service. Immediately write them a letter explaining when your contract term is up and that you will not be renewing the contract.

If you fail to do this they will claim that the contract renewed itself, and they will bill you even though, as in my case they are no longer providing service.
