Sears Credit Card Unfair Charges

My husband and I paid off a Sears credit card account in August of 1999. We never again received a bill from Sears until we were notified by a debt collector that we owed $825 for a delinquent Sears account. Sears and the debt collector - Creditors Interchange-will not give us any information on this account.

We do not feel we owe Sears anything and are very upset that this is showing up on our credit report as a charged off account. According to a teenager at the debt collector's company, he said it is probably because we never closed the account, so we were charged for late fees and interest.

This is absurd, especially because Sears never mailed us a bill saying we owed anything after the balance was paid in full. We now hired a lawyer who is helping us with this situation. We will never shop at Sears again and are informing all our friends and families to do the same and to especially cancel the Sears credit cards before this happens to them.
