Bank of America I discovered that a fraudulent purchase had been made with my check card. I reported the incident and the amount was placed back in my account pending an investigation. A month or more later I recieved a letter from the fraud dept. stating that the based upon their investigation I, in fact, had authorized that charge and they were going to deduct the cost of that purchase from my account. The letter also stated that if I wanted information on the research they conducted I could request it.
That afternoon I requested their research and asked would they not deduct fraudulent charge from my account. The representative could not tell me if that was possible during an appeal of the decision. I took the following day off of work to straighten out this matter. When I reached the fraud dept. they said that the case had been resolved in my favor. I still requested copies of what ever research had been done, and a letter stating the the matter was resolved.
She said she would request that form me. After a week and not having received anything I called again. I was told that no research was ever done on this case, that is why there was nothing to send me. I told them I wanted that in writing also, along with a letter stating that this was resolved. After another week I called to check on the status of the information I requested.
The case notes indicated that the research stated that there was no case notes, they did not research the claim, and the matter was resolved in my favor. I insisted that I wanted all of this in writing. After all, the first offical letter I received was that based on their research I had made this purchase. I simply want this in writing that I have been cleared in this investigation. However, Bank of America did no research, will not respond to my request, and looks like an instution with shady business practices. I plan to let everyone I know about this case. In the process I have spoken to people with simular situations.
