Complaint:
I received an advertisment in the mail stating that I had won a brand new computer with monotor. When i called the toll free number, the operator told me they were from the Martin Lake Resort in Biloxi and I would definitely get a new Gateway computer if I come in for an hour tour.
When I made my appointment for Saturday, April 10 the operator asked me if I was married and had a combined income of $30,000 a year. I was also told to bring my checkbook.
I went to the appointment alone because my wife was unable to come. When I arrived there the clerk at the desk told me I couldn't take the tour or receive the computer because me wife was not with me. When I tried to talk to the clerk he walked away.
I went to the local sheriff's office to report the incident. A deputy sheriff told me that others have had simular problems and advised me to contact the BBB. I drove 120 miles round trip for nothing from Daphne, Alabama. The owner, Jerry S also was no help with the situation. They were acually selling $5000 time shares but didn't tell you until you got there.
Settlement Explanation:
I was told that I would get this Gateway Computer regardless and was denied. I feel they owe me this computer.

While traveling in my motorhome, I stayed at Martin Lake as it was a Coast to Coast park. I liked the Biloxi, MS area so purchased a membership for $1500 and annual dues of $249. I only stayed there the one year and although I paid dues for a 2nd year, I never returned. I cancelled my membership and agreed to forfeit my $1500. This was in June 2002. Now I find that Martin Lake is claiming I owe $1371 in back annual dues and turned it over to Bayside Recovery (Collection Agency)claiming my dues must be paid forever, even though I no longer use their services and had cancelled my membership in writing and forfeited my $1500 membership fee. They are a sneaky and deceiving company and I refuse to pay. So buyer beware!! By the way, I sold my RV many years ago and am 77 years old and in poor health, living on social security and a small pension.
