RE: McAfee Tech Support

My horror story begins with the eleven-month pop-ups from McAfee alerting me to purchase my virus definition renewal which is a paid subscription for the next 12 months after a year of free updates. Nothing happened when I clicked Purchase on their window. I went to the manual. The manual supplied a McAfee website which finally frustrated me into Tech Support.

After filling in information blanks and waiting for hours, I finally got a tech person. He typed wait awhile, until my computer froze. After a few days, I thought I would try again. Somehow, not through support or instructions, I arrived at a purchase window. Once again, after filling in information blanks and trying for hours, I finally managed to purchase a virus definition renewal, which was by the way twice the cost stated in the manual. Once my credit card was verified, the e-mail confirmation came swiftly.

The horror story continues...Just click on the product in my order confirmation to download? Far from it. After filling in information blanks over and over, following DETAILED DOWNLOAD and REDOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS with major roadblocks and incorrect or unavailable buttons per directions, contacting tech support only to be frozen out once again, I cannot download what I recently purchased.

I refuse to pay twice the amount for a live tech phone call than I paid for this renewal subscription. That's outrageous when it comes to tech support. Why does this company not have an 800 number for tech support? What good is their product if you cannot download or install it? The biggest frustration is when one troubleshoots, does their homework, and prepares for a tech call, only to be blindsided. I am a teacher, and need to use and protect my computer. What is so hard about this?

It seems the only way I can solve my problem is to contact McAfee by snail mail, and hope for results. I have spent way too much time on this already. If I don't get results, I will be forced to get my credit card company involved. I will not pay for something I can't access.
