AT & T Phone Service
In June 2003, we moved to another location. AT&T had always been our local & long distance carrier. I called them to let them know the date we would be moving and they issued a new phone number for our new home in the same town.
We get there and we had no dial tone and this went on for several days. Finally, I called and was told they had connected the number in the wrong apartment and that they would correct it. Still no dial tone, so I called back and then I was told they couldn't get phone service into our building, a high rise, and that we would have to go with a carrier already in that building which was SBC. No problem, SBC had our phones up and running immediately.
Then I started getting phone bills from AT&T for connecting the original phone number and service including 1 phone call . . . Hello, how do you makes calls when you don't have service on that line? After 2 phone calls to AT&T, they dropped all but the phone call charges of just over $6. So, I wrote them a letter explaining all this one more time and that I shouldn't be charged for the phone call. I never heard anything else from them.
Then last week, during a credit check for a new mortgage, it was found that some small minded employee of AT&T had put this $6 + on our credit report. My mortgage company thought it was funny but we don't! I will make sure that we never do any kind of business with AT&T again and need to figure out what to do to get this off my credit report.
