UPS is THE Worst!
I have had numerous deliveries from UPS in the last several years, and their service has gotten so terrible, that my odds of receiving a successful delivery are, I'd say, one in 20. Usually I wind up having to retrieve my package myself, in person, at the UPS "hub" in downtown Los Angeles. Even so, when there in person, the manner and acumen of the workers is incredibly unprofessional. They often have NO clue where my package is (unlike FedEx, they seem to not obsessively scan and track their parcels) -last time, it had to be searched for, I was made to feel as if I'd made up ever hearing from the office at all-and I waited an HOUR before it was found "in someone's office"). But that's getting ahead of myself. Here's the latest delivery nightmare: I live in a neighborhood with curving, hilly streets. There are no sidewalks. Streets start, dead-end after a block, then continue several streets on. Confusing, maybe-but certainly decipherable if one is armed with a Thomas Bros. Street Guide; I've NEVER had a problem with friends, Pizza delivery boys, FedEx, or the post office "finding" my house(not even when a postal worker who is completely new to the area is delivering for the day). ONLY UPS has drivers who are, from my anecdotal experience, totally incompetent, if not downright dishonest. Harsh words, perhaps-but I am now in the 4th day of trying to get a package delivered to me, which the driver claims to have honestly attempted to deliver. He hasn't. Why?
Because he has entered completely off-the-wall reasons into his little electronic record for why he can't find my house. Get this: BOTH "Access code needed for entry" AND "no such address/incorrect ##" were listed on the UPS tracking page as reasons my item wasn't delivered! In the first place, my totally residential, single-family street has NO condos, apartments, or any other building for miles that requires "an access code". No one has entry gates, etc. Not only that-I had placed LARGE signs on the street with my address and arrows pointing up my driveway! In past "deliveries", I have actually taken time off work to sign for important parcels, and many times the driver NEVER came near my house. The last time, I was monitoring the progress of the delivery via the web while waiting at home. Suddenly, the website showed "delivery attempted, no one home". I HAD been home. NO tag was left-because the driver, wherever he was, hadn't tried to make the delivery!
Usually this happens with a "Next-Day" delivery, which costs considerably extra; when I've complained to the local office or the 1-800 number, I'm told quite unashamedly: "too bad"--or, in their words, "Sorry, there's nothing we can do". Isn't that terrific?! Even if I PAID a triple charge for next-day-air, if the driver gets "lost", and it's a Friday, there's NO way the company would even consider a complimentary Saturday delivery. They've also told me there's no way to be compensated for the service I paid for and DID NOT receive! As I said before, my neighborhood, with its winding streets, can be confusing-but that is a poor excuse for a supposedly "professional" delivery company. ONCE in years of frequent deliveries, FedEx failed to find my house. Guess what? Without ANY urging on my part, because it was THEIR mistake, a FedEx administrative person-NOT a driver!--personally drove by my house & delivered my package. Now, THAT is stellar service! I will never, never, ever use UPS by my own choice. When certain sellers insist on it, from now on I will decline to buy from them, and tell them why. This company is run so poorly, it deserves to go out of business, period. I would gladly request that you submit this complaint to UPS corporate, but wouldn't you know-they don't list ANY direct email addresses on their site(a "submit form" must be filled out instead). Gee, I wonder why? -Jennifer L JP
