CompUSA in Clive, IA
This complaint is about CompUSA in Clive, IA which gave very poor customer service and lack good judgement when it came to customer service and their products. So I am a senior at Iowa State University getting ready to graduate and find a job and get married in July, so I am pretty busy. My computer was plug in while I was using and then the battery ran low even though the AC Adaptor power supply cord was plugged in and eventually my computer died, basically.
So, being frustrated I went to CompUSA to tell them that I thought that my AC Adaptor was not working because the little "green" light showing whether the AC Adapter was plugged in or not. The Tech at CompUSA did a voltage test on the adapter and confirmed that it was supplying my computer with power and said that he will order a new one which should take 7-10 business days.
It was okay but annoying that I wouldn't have a computer for that long since I really needed to finish my resume, cover letters and a portfolio over spring break. The Tech told me that he needed to keep my computer there so that when the power cord came in, they could test it and make sure that is definitely the problem with the power supply.
It was okay with me since I had no use for it. 8 business days went by and I called CompUSA to see if the cord came in, the person said that the computer was sent out and should be back by the end of the week or the beginning of the next. He told me something new because I wasn't aware that my computer was sent anywhere, I thought I was just waiting for a power cord to arrive, but I didn't think about it too much then.
So today, I called them, because it was the 10th business day and was eager to get my computer back, because I was already behind on job searching. They told me that my computer was in and read what was performed on it and they said that the invoice said that the AC Adaptor cord was faulty and replaced and that my hardware did not pass the diagnostics test and a new one was burned in and replace!? That made me question something, I didn't even have a problem with the computer, why was the hard drive messed with? So I went and got my computer and found out that the place that CompUSA has a contract with in Texas replaced my hard drive without making a back up.
So everything I had on my computer was gone, which was a lot. The techs at CompUSA told me that once they send things out to this repair company in Texas, they do not know what happens to the computers, but CompUSA has a complaining customers hard drive wiped out before. So logical sense would tells me that CompUSA needs to tell their customers to back up their computers before bringing them in to be service at CompUSA because who knows what happens to them.
But the thing is, I didn't bring in my computer to be serviced, I just needed a new power cord and CompUSA neglience to not think "is this computer backed up before we send it to the repair company in Texas where we don't know what happens to it" didn't enter their mind.
The bottom line is that I should not have had to back up my system because my system was not the problem and they should have told me that they were sending my computer to Texas and that they have had customers hard drives wiped out and should have asked me if mine was backed up before they sent it. (they didn't tell me that they were going to send it when I brought it in) I don't suggest shopping at CompUSA becuase then, when you have the warranty through them, things like this will happens, hours and hours of info gone, for no good reason.
