Wal-Mart in Millington, TN - Cashier and manager was rude after I had a complaint
Dear Consumer and Complaints.com, After the problem I had with Wal-Mart employees, I have decided to take my business elsewhere. I have heard others having similar complaints about being accused of stealing from Wal-Mart, etc and treated unfairly. And even some employees being treated unfairly! People get paid crappy wages and Wal-Mart makes a ton of money. Wal-Mart promises they will give you friendly service and that is FAR from the truth. I am tired of cashiers and managers who do not care less and get attitudes with you. And I'm sure that the top management isn't any better. Wal-Mart remains in the top 10 of the top performing companies in Fortune 500 magazine, but do they care about you? No, it's about the money. Yet people keep going there because of the prices and convenience. I have decided to take my business to my local mom and pop stores and other department stores. I'd rather spend more or travel a bit further to spend my money where people are going to treat you right. My problem with them happened Friday, March 26 at the Wal-Mart in Millington, Store #94. I went in to buy a video THE MATRIX RELOADED. I got to the register and the lady scanned it, told me she needed to see my driver's license. I was taken aback and asked "My license?" She said it was telling her that she needed to see my liscense. I told her "You're kidding, that's never happened to me before.
When did this take effect? I've bought other Rated R videos and no one has asked me for my license." She adamantly says "Well, it's procedure" and something like "We always check. It's always been like that." I was still upset I wanted to get in and out and not have any problems. I had left my license in my car. I hated to have to go get it over a video! She puts the video off to the side and rings up my other item acting as if I am some kid who is trying to buy booze! You have to be 18 at least to buy a rated R movie and I am 25, I KNOW I look older than that! Well I tell her that and she still didn't bulge. Well I ended up going to my car for my license and eventually purchasing the video. When I got home, I decided to call the store and talk to a manager who told me that only on certain rated R videos they have that requirement. And cashiers must ask for ID on someone who is younger than 30.
And she said the cashier was doing her job. That wasn't the problem, I did comply and showed her my license, but I wasn't happy about having to show it. I wasn't a kid trying to buy mature video games or something. Well I got off the phone, still annoyed and thought why would she say anyone under 30 has to show ID when you can purchase a rated R video at 18? Doesn't make ANY sense!
I had to go back to the store that night and decided to ask for a manager face to face. She was rude, I felt like she just wanted me to leave and not hear my complaint. I told her it didn't make any sense to ask for ID for people under 30 when I could purchase the video if I was 18. She said it wasn't Wal-Mart's policy and to take it up with the State of Tennessee, call your senator and complain, etc. I asked if they could just put up a sign saying that an ID check is required before buying this video because all of that caught me by suprise. The woman wouldn't hear of it.
She acted like it's not our problem, now go away. It made me irritated because she couldn't care less. I eventually said, "Never mind, I am getting nowhere" and left. I was walking to my car very annoyed when I overheard a conversation behind me of a man who was accused of trying to steal something. I turned around and shared my story with him and his wife about all of this and how Wal-Mart treats people, just to vent. They want that money from ya when you shop there but that's it!! I think as consumers we should send Wal-Mart a message and start shopping at the mom and pop stores or other discount stores that deserve our business. Because Wal-Mart DOES NOT CARE about people. I am tired of this behavior. Nobody is helpful. When a company says they will be there to help the customer (at least listen) and that they are a friendly store, they should exemplify that and not push people away. Complaints.com, please let them know they have one less faithful customer as I am very dissatisfied. Felicia B. P.S. Wal-Mart's home office contact information is: Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. I have a friend who at 16, 17 looked like he was in his late 20's, or 30 years of age. If they went solely according to looks, then they would be prosecuted for selling R-rated videos to underage kids like my friend. The law wants them not to rely on looks, alone.
