Highpoint Furniture, Northeast OH - late furniture delivery

I just want to warn anyone in Northeast Ohio about Highpoint furniture. Last summer my fiance and I decided it to look for a bedroom suit. My parents offered to by us one as a wedding gift. Since we were to be married in October I thought if we ordered by July we would have no problems having it in time.

So we went to several area furniture stores. We found just the right set at Highpoint furniture. It was a beautiful cherry sleighbed with dresser and mirror, chest of drawers and two night stands. It was reasonably priced. With the mattress and box springs it was a little over 2,000. So I went in the weekend of the 4th of July and paid it in full on our credit card. The girl that rang it up let me know it was on back order but, that it would be in in a few weeks.

I went on vacation the following week. So at the end of July I called and the furniture was not in yet. They said it should be in by mid August. By the end of August I still didn't hear from them. I called again they said it should be in by mid september. Meanwhile the sales guy bob always seemed so helpful and on our side ready to do anything yet never called us with updates.

I always had to call them. September rolls around and I am getting frantic. I am getting married on October 11 and really want my furniture. I make a small stink and they say it should all be in by the end of the month, and they do have the bed and dresser with mirror if we want it now and then the rest at the end of the month.

So I say that's great. We schedule a delivery. My mom stays at our house the day of the delivery. They had tremendous difficulty getting the bed down our steps. Our bedroom will be in the basment. The guy says to my mom that he is surprised they didn't sell us a two piece box spring instead of a one. The salesman never even asked us.

They dent the ceiling and break the lightswitch. My mom wasn't sure where we wanted the dresser so they put it in the room at the bottom of the steps and didn't attach the mirror. This was understandable. So when I got home from work we decide to move the dresser ourselves. I took all the drawers out in order to reduce the weight. Much to my dismay I find one of the drawers is cracked on the bottom where it fits on the track.

So we move it and set the mirror on top under a bathrobe so as not to scratch it. I call the store because now it is the end of september of course the other parts aren't in. They are guessing they should be in in mid October. I explain about the broken light fixture and the drawer. THey did offer to refund the parts for the light fixture and said I could come in to replace the drawer.

Well we got married in October and still no furniture. Towards the end of the year it's still not in. My husband decides to call. He talks to bob, not salesguy bob, but manager bob. Of course he can't do a darn thing.

My husband suggests we get some instore credit to accomadate our inconvienience., Or at least a free piece of furniture. Bob checks with his boss and a week later calls to let my husband know they will give us $100 off our next purchase of $500 or more. As if we would ever have a next purchase. Meanwhile the only solution they have offered us is an exchange or refund.

They don't have any other pieces even close to what we have. I go into the store and speak to manager bob who informs me that I can call local furniture stores to see if they cary that brand and style and will except a trade. Exscuse me why should I do this? I am fed up if it were my company I would be on the manufacture like nothing else.

They tell us it's in China. It should be in in two weeks. Again it's not in. So I contacted our local newschannel 5. As soon as they investigate the CEO sends a letter to them implying that he sent one to us as well that gives us the three options, exchange, full refund, partial refund. Also the letter states if I have any concerns I can contact him personally. Of course when I attempt to do this he is with a customer and when I give my name I am told his secretary will be handling our problem.

Meanwhile my husband had talked with bob the sales guy who gaurantees we will get it by christmas eve. wrong again.

So we go to the store to see if by chance they have a set that we like better. Bob the sales guy asks us what the status is because "they" aren't telling him anything. He is unaware that we recieved a letter and that the furniture will never arrive per ceo. He tells us he will call around various stores to see if they have the same set. Of course we never hear from him.

We never get any calls from them or letters until Feb 2004 a cert letter arrives stating our 3 options. Implying they've tried to contact us.

So we decided to keep the bed and have the furniture returned. We do get a refund but not for the delivery. I felt we should get intrest but that surely didn't happen either.

I am so upset because now we have to go find furniture again. We've been married 6 months and we are literally living out of three seperate bedrooms.
