ADT misled me into signing a new long term agreement by promising a $2.00 discount off my monthly reat. My rate was $30.26, including taxes, and was deducted from my checking on a monthly basis.
In February, ADT deducted $32.56, and in March they have deducted $30.56, even after promising to refund the overbilling. Neither amount reflects the discout that they led me to expect. I hae called them multiple times and althrough they have been pleasant over the phone, they have not been responsivie to my billing complaints.
On about January 30, I received a call from and ADT security representative. She said that our contract had expired and she was offering a $2.00 discount off the monthly fee if we would sign a new contract. I asked what I needed to do and she said that an ADT representative would have to come to the house to get my signature on a new contract. . I then told her we have a problem with one of the security system door contacts that was loose. She said the representative who came by could fix it at the same appointment. So we set up an appointment for February 6.
On the day of the appointment, I was not able to be home, so my husband was there to meet the ADT representative. The man who came to the appointment was only interested in selling more equipment, could not/would not fix the door contact, and was puzzed that we would have been told that he was there to do anything more than try to sell more equipment and get a signature. He again told my husband that by signing this new contract, we'd get $2.00 off our monthly fee.
I was unhappy that ADT did not repair the contact, but decided not to pursue it and just be satisfied with the $2.00 per month discount. HOWEVER, ADT did not give me a discount, they charged an additional $2.29 over what we had been paying.
After this overcharge, I recieved a form letter announcing a fee increase. No one ever said that the discount would be off of a NEW INCREASED FEE, they only said that there would be a discount off of our fee. So they LIED when they said there would be a discount or they LIED about the fee. Either way THEY LIED.
I have called several times to complain. In March they billed me $30.55. That is still more than what I was paying.
If ADT had never called me, I would have been satisifed to continue paying the $30.26 per month. But they lied to me. They committed fraud. Now I want to cancel this contract and never have anything to do with them again.
I have written to the Kansas Attorney General's office, Fraud Division. I plan to write to the FTC. And if I don't get satisfaction from ADT before April 17, I plan to call whatever consumer protection or investigation services are at my disposal, television, radio, government, who ever I can get to respond.
