1998 Ford Mustang GT - all plastic intake manifold developed crack, had to be replaced - paid Ford Dealer over $ 700 for replacement

Ford Mustang GT

I have a 1998 Ford Mustang GT. My all plastic intake manifold developed a crack for no reason and had to be replaced. The only place to get this intake manifold is from the Ford Dealer at over $ 700.00 When I received the replacement Intake manifold I discovered that the new Intake was now metal but only in the section that had cracked. I then learned that Ford does know about this problem but refuses to recall this engine for the problem and bad engineering. So if you own a ford with a Plastic Intake manifold, get rid of it before you get screwed on the cost to fix a bad design from Ford. I have certainly learned my lesson with Ford and refuse to ever purchase another Ford product. By the way, if your Plastic Intake manifold cracks for no reason at all, you can expect to pay anywhere from $ 12000 to $ 1500 to get it repaired. Jeff S S,Jeffery

I have a 1999 Ford Mustang GT and this also happened to me. The estimate from my local repair shop was $1200, seems this could have been prevented with a little more quality certainly disappointed with Ford on this one.
