United Subscription Agency In Vero Beach Florida - Got conned into buying a magazine subscription by a young salesperson who fast talked his way into my checkbook

My complaint is against United Subscription Agency. Beware of their phony sales pitches because they are part of the traveling sales crew world. I was approached on my college campus on February 3, 2004 by a guy working for this traveling sales crew named James.

He started hitting on me and asked me vulgar and inappropriate questions. He conned me into buying a magazine subscription that I did not want in the first place. He just kept talking and talking and before I knew it I was writing him a check for $66.00. After he filled out the forms he failed to give me a receipt of any kind. So I thought this to be a scam and I called my bank and did a stop payment on my check.

Now this company has a collection agency coming after me saying now I owe them $96.00 and they added $30.00 to the $66.00 that I owed all because I cancelled my check. They are sending me letters threatining to report me to their states attorney generals office worthless checks division. I'm just like okay why should I have to pay for something that I do not want.

Traveling sales crews have scary and coniving people working for them and this company is stopping at nothing to collect the amount that they are demanding that I pay or else. I don't think It's right of them to be doing this to me or to anyone else.

If anyone out there can offer me some assistance in what I should do in a situation like this then E-mail me and let me know. I want help in avoiding being harassed by this company.

And If you have been approached by someone working for this company then please e-mail your story so that I know I am not the only one that this happened too. Pilar

I was also scammed out of $48.00 from this company on 12-9-09. Check was cashed and no magazine subscription came! I have a pending complaint with the BBB, but who knows what will come of that. If anyone else has any ideas on what to do please let me know. It looks like I'm not the only one this has happened to.

I got scammed back in September 2009. I tried everything short of filing a lawsuit-I sent several unanswered emails, an unanswered (but signed for) certified letter, and I filed complaints with the Southeast FL BBB, FL AG, and FL Dept. of Agriculture & Consumer Services. The Dept. of Agriculture & Consumer Services reported back that they couldn't do anything because USA refused to cooperate. I just finished law school and I'm thinking we could file a class action lawsuit since it doesn't seem like the state agencies care. It seems like a lot of people got ripped off and we can probably find an attorney to take the case on a contingency fee basis. Respond on this page if you are interested in pursuing this route.

United Subscription Agency got my check for $42.00 and I never have received a magazine or a reply to my four emails regarding this. I will call my city hall and make a complaint so they can't do business here again, and if one of them shows up here again, I will call the police.

October 7, 2009 ordered 2 magazines from some kid Elijah Smith who said I would receive my mags in 120 days but since I live in CA paid cash, would receive in 4-6 weeks. Yea right. Haven't seen or heard a thing. Call the toll free numbers and mailbox is full. Call another and its a phone sex hotline. I am beyond pissed off. Let this kid in my house and now regret everything. Can't believe this has happened to so many people and NOBODY has done anything about it. If I call the BBB what will they do? Please help!!

Also scammed in Tennessee! Young lady got a couple of orders from my teenage son in March '09! No magazines and no response to our requests for a refund! I advised my son he just paid $76 worth of "pretty girl" tax! I would not worry about the $96, even if it goes to a collection item on your credit report. This one incident will normally not prevent you from obtaining credit - and you can always dispute the charge if your bank questions you about it. Good Luck!
