Symantec NAV rebates
This is the second time in three years! Bought Symantec Norton Antivirus along with Turbotax... Supposedly the Norton Antivirus is "free" after a $30 combined NAV/Turbotax rebate and a $20 upgrade rebate. Once again, Symantec (or their rebate contractor) claims they "did not receive the original submittal"! How convenient for them! Of course I could have sent it certified, registered etc., but by that time there isn't much left of the rebate. Out of $150 in rebates owed to me over the last three years, I have received $50!
Anyway, I get no response from the rebate contractor or Symantec except for an endless "loop" of auto response emails that send me back to the webpage where I originally submitted the complaint, where it asks me to submit my information.
It seems that Symantec in particular plays this game all the time. I've read countless complaints on this page as well as others about Symantec doing this same thing. Isn't there anything that can be done? Is there no law against simply blowing off customers and not paying the rebates?
In 20 years I've only had 1 piece of mail get lost.... except for (according to Symantec) the 4 out of 6 pieces of mail containing rebates going to them over the last three years.... funny how selective the postal service is when it comes to loosing mail!

I kept asking for the next higher chain of command and got nowhere. Finally I got the number for corporate office. Phone was answered by a PERSON! After explaining the hell I had been through for the past hour, he said my rebate would be honored and the check expedited!!! Symantec has played this game for years - you just gotta figure out how to beat the system! Last year I mailed EVERYTHING as asked, then received a reply saying they needed items that I ALREADY sent with my original request. After many emails back and forth I finially received an email saying ok, well send you a check, expect it in 4 to 6 weeks, I was fine with that. A little over 2 months later I looked into it again and respopnded to the email they sent to me explaining that I would be receiving the rebate - BUT, their next reply told me I was out of luck as that offer is expired!!! What a crock of crap! From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Saturday, 12-Jan-08 12:50:05 CST Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This |
