PanAm, Portsmouth, NH - flight from Manchster, NH has been cancelled many times PanAm, Portsmouth, NH - flight from Manchster, NH has been cancelled many times
PamAm Portsmouth, NH The historic PamAm was sold a few years ago to a smaller company. The name PamAm was also bought. Thinking I was dealing with the original reputable company, in late 2003 I purchased two tickets from Manchester, NH to Sanford, Fl for January, 2004. The troubles began less than one week prior to take-off. The Manchester flight had been cancelled (no excuse given) "but I could fly from Portsmouth, NH ... and they have free parking ... or I could fly a day earlier ... or three days later ... or I could cancel".
The PamAm employee got hostile when I said "none of the above is acceptable related to scheduled limo pickup, rental car and hotel at my Florida destination". I spoke to a supervisor and was offered a limo from my home to Portsmouth, but I needed to call back the next day to get the confirmation number as the limo company computers were down. I called back and was told my entire plane reservation had been cancelled. I spoke with the supervisor again; she assured me everything was fine and gave me the confirmation number. We were picked up and headed for Boston; I said we were going to Portsmouth, NH. Whew, that was rectified in time.
At Pease International Airport, Portsmouth, NH unbeknownst to us the 7 am flight was now scheduled for 8 am departure. Got on the plane and pilot said "an engine failed". We sat on the plane finally departing at 10 am without any explanation during those two hours if it was fixable, what was being done, anticipated departure time and no coffee was offered. Towards the end of the two week vacation I called PamAm to confirm return flight to Portsmouth, NH. Answer: "no, you're confirmed to Manchester, NH". Panic time again. When they originally told me they cancelled Manchester and offered "Portsmouth ... with the free parking" and I accepted, wouldn't you think you were flying back to your point of departure. Departed Sanford/Orlando, Fl airport. Scheduled stop in Myrtle Beach, again "engine failure". At 4 pm overheard the pilot say "this plane isn't flying, get us overnight accommodations ... private rooms for six", but no announcement to passengers what the problem or alternatives were. At 6 pm announcement 'this plane isn't flying". 6 pm was the scheduled landing at Manchester, NH where my husband and others waited for their loved ones - the monitor reading 'flight on schedule', then at 6 pm wiped off the monitor without explanation.
According to my husband, people were frightened and wondering. They had to approach the PanAm desk to find out explanation. Husband had me paged at Myrtle Beach; told him, as I just had learned, that a PanAm flight from Florida,( which that plane was behind schedule) would make an emergency stop, pick us up, but would not stop in Manchester, but directly to Portsmouth, landing at midnight. Finally arrived home at 2 am, vowing never to fly PamAm and this was the consensus of all. BUT, since that time the Friday Florida flight from Manchster, NH has been cancelled many times. Plus as late as last week, the Myrtle Beach stop has been delayed because of 'engine malfunction'. At least they are consistent with their inconsistencies.
