Complaint against Northwest Airlines

I set up a flight from Dallas to Minneapolis with Northwest Airlines. Went through Expedia.com to arrange everything. In the meantime I have fallen and broke my elbow requiring surgery. It involves having to cancel my travel plans (or at least change them to a later date). I now am told that there is an extra $100.00 per ticket charge for changing the ticket date.

I can understand not wanting to refund the tickets but I certainly do not see why I should be charged an additional $200.00 for myself and my wife to change our tickets to a later date. I'm extreemly upset with Northwest Airlines for not even considering waiving this fee. I have no plans to use or do business with a company that will not even consider extenuating circumstances for some problems or issues.
